I have the High Tower Armory MBS-95. (It requires a sacrificial Hi-Point for the upper action :anonymous:) Its a surprisingly well balanced and fun to shoot plinker. Downside is that I had to install the rubber talon grips everywhere, because I hate gripping hard plastic.

I know you asked about 9mm but .22 probably is cheaper yet and this thing is a lot of fun to shoot

I have a New Frontier C-5 rifle but they also sell PDW pistols. Its been a very good firearm for me. I use it for 3-gun matches

Toytec Fronts. 18x9 Fuels on 285/65/18 TerraGrapplerG2's. LEDs everywhere.
CMMG makes converted mag inserts too. I like that idea. Theirs run on any AR lower with carbine buffer & spring, but will they run on *any* 9mm upper? Just says it runs on cmmg uppers. Wonder if they made it proprietary?

$900 can buy a lot of .223/5.56 with current prices being at or under $0.25/round, vs $900 for a new gun and 9mm being at $0.15/round

Where on earth are you finding 5.56 that cheap regularly (that isn't steel wolf)? Seems like 28.x cents/rnd is about as low as I can find after tax+shipping is considered. I say that after searching for several afternoons before buying my last stockpile.

I agree with your sentiment though. Add to existing capability for maximum benefit.

looks like prices went up a little since I last checked. but 1500 for a parts kit still isn't bad and you get HK parts, not *shudders* PSA parts.

If you dig into it, the CMMG mags are rebranded EndoMag version for the CMMG Radial Delayed Blowback design. The CMMG-EndoMag doesn't have a built in ejector, the standard EndoMag does.

Well, with a budget of $900 1/2 of the choices you listed are already out.
I would suggest anything but an AR-9 unless it's a high end factory built pistol (which will be above your budget).
All AR9's are direct blowback (other than CMMG's radial blowback, which is above your budget), due to this they all recoil more than a 5.56 rifle. They are also much less reliable, and if you plan to suppress them they are very loud to the shooters ear (lots of ejection port noise from direct blowback).

I currently own everything on your list but the Scorpion, which I have minimal experience with. But of those options it would be the best choice for you. They can be had for around $800. After that you'll still need a brace, which will be between $100-300. I suggest the SB Tactical SBTEVO. The Scorpion has a horrible trigger and grip, but those can be upgraded down the road. Be mindful when you buy that you pick one up with 1/2x28 muzzle threads. There's some early models with strange threads that make it very difficult to change muzzle devices or suppress.

I've had nearly a dozen AR-9's. All but the high end ones have been very unreliable.
Also take a look at the Stribog, a lot of people have been having very good luck with it. It is direct blowback and suffers the problems associated with that but from the looks of things they're reliable, and pretty neat in general and within your budget. The Sub 2000 is another option, although I think you'd be happier with something else.

EDIT: The MPX is my favorite "9mm sub-gun" on the market, mine has tens of thousands of rounds through it. The APC-9 is also amazing, but isn't nearly as quiet or soft recoiling as the MPX. I just picked up the newly released H&K SP5, mainly for cool factor. They're very quiet and soft recoiling but have a sub-par manual of arms, weight and cost.

Out of those the best one for your budget/quality would be the scorpion. The cheapest would be the AR-9 with a glock lower. The problem with the AR platform is that it is designed for rifle rounds, but adapted to pistol calibers. The scorpion is designed around the 9mm. Although, if you want something to replicate your AR15 for drills etc you should go for the AR-9. Just make sure to get a glock lower, if you dont you'll need a conversion block and it'll 1: cost more, 2: decrease reliability.

Targetsportsusa, atm i believe wolf brass is $0.27, if you are a prime member you get an 8% discount and free shipping bringing it to just under 25 cpr, but they run a lot of federal ammo sales too, which is currently sitting at 30cpr but routinely can be had for 25cpr before the discounts or mail in rebates

Man that MPX is sexy. Awesome advice so far guys, thank you. I am kind of getting the sense that an AR 9 is just a Frankenstein, not ideal. I like the idea of a platform completely designed for the 9mm. Scorpion seems to be the best value option. That wilson is insanely sexy, but way too much cheddar. The Angstadts seem like a good compromise.

I have 2 Angstadt’s. They’ve been very reliable and are built well. Direct blowback recoil and noise are there, but reliability is good. But, unless you’re willing to wait for a good used one to pop up they are also out of your budget.

May I ask why the budget can't exceed $900? Personally, I'd say save your money and buy a Sig MPX, which is better than a Scorpion in pretty much every way.

No, you may not ask why. From the research I’ve done since I started this thread I’ve read too many negatives about the MPX to consider it anymore. Apparently the barrel shoulder has some stupid proprietary thread pattern so you have to use their muzzle devices, cans, etc. that’s BS. No respect for companies that do that. Some companies like Midwest make adapters, but they make the gun widely inaccurate. It’s overly greedy. Also, I’d rather deal with recoil than have an unnecessarily complicated system. Meaning I’m pretty set on a direct blow back.
