Yes. BL on top of factory mounts, but it is the mount, not the BL that is moving.

Ohhhh... Damn! That sounds like a fatigue issue that could be a problem with lots of wheeling. Any way to reinforce?

Continuing with the bumper/winch install. The final clearance around the winch motor and trimming of the cover for the motor. I have about 4 hours in all the trimming I have to do, the 9500lb winch was worth it though.

    winch%20clearence_zps9focexho_b57c5b49f40978f4f52e5dd540ca15a7bdd0adaf.jpg

The factory battery terminals just will not cut it. I have seen a couple melt down.

    weak%20battery%20terminals_zpsxw4gfoa8_1cf5ba5d2e6c1223c26ad3e26ece223b42aa23ff.jpg

I picked up some military spec battery terminals. I've seen them rated over 500 amps. A loaded winch can peak over 300 amps, possibly more. I'll try and remember to check with my amp meter next time I winch.

    heavy%20duty%20battery%20terminals_zpsjp_8e8aaed8d8ab3e5e90e1d6f4af4c1896fb37eab7.jpg

The fit turned out nice. I need an LED or something for those light tabs.

    winch%20installed_zpseiacxex4_74fcd8ad4154ca2f8079b053cddfc890842da2d1.jpg

The final fit is very close to the fenders, to the point that when I 4wheel it touches. I'm going to possibly body lift the truck or lower the bumper by grinding the holes for mounting. Either way, I'm looking for only 1/4" for now. The look is way improved over the stock bumper. The sliders are out of the way enough that they don't hinder entrance or exit of me or the kids.

    New mounts :notsure:

That's what I was wondering about, bummer. A small BL should take care of it, I personally would go that route over making the holes bigger, give you better tire clearance at the same time.

I have one of the differentials built. An 8"electric locker. Fitted with 4.56 Nitro gears.

Shitter is, I used the pinion flange from the diff that was out of a 1st gen Tacoma. The drive shaft pattern is too small. Luckily I used a solid spacer so a swap will be easy.

Sweet. One other thing I would suggest adding early on is some lower link skids, and avoid a HUGE hassle down the line, like these. I really wish I had . . .

Yup, those will do. Really just need something, the stock mounts are like 1/8"

Getting the front diff built. The pattern came in around .065" of pinion shim. Eric's was around .069". I wish the fronts used adjusters rather then shims for the side gears, those get tedious when searching for carrier preload and back lash.

    front%20diff_zps34lncthx_0115efb65e666c63a90ea910f770003c5ef31473.jpg

I'll get them installed tomorrow. I'll have to do the housing mod to the rear. If you didn't want to mod the housing, a 4th gen rear is the same as an FJ Cruiser.

I'm going to start to add the Tacoma to this thread also.

About 6 months ago I came across a possible vehicle purchase. I was not looking for a truck because I already had a very clean 1995 Truck that needed and engine (and still does ). It was a 2000 Tacoma that needed a bunch of work. The suspension was trashed, it needed a clutch, the valve covers were leaking covering everything below them. It was a typical neglected daily driver truck. The interior was clean in looked straight enough on the body.

    1st%20day%202000%20taco_zpsb4qsxc9b_02d1c6f7291b4b9854b8487eb13d5646e8d32037.jpg

1st step was the basic maintenance and repairs. I did a clutch and valve cover gaskets within the 1st week. Recharged the A/C and fixed a leaking o-ring. The suspension would be repaired with a lift from Toytec a couple weeks later.

    valve%20cover%20gasket%20time_zpsdhngfs2_4fe65dbd9542293af44a9675bb1cf1b038ffd9d8.jpg

I might have got lucky with the previous maintenance history. No Sludge buildup or major discoloring. There was/are a ton of previous technician errors and mess ups, down right f-ed up stuff. Most notable, the engine had a horrible vibration above 3krpm, the whole vehicle would shake. I found the problem being related to a washer under the fan clutch, sandwiched between the fan clutch and belt pulleys. Why would you put 1 washer there, I have no clue.

I decided on an Bilstein 5100 lift. It was cheap (I know why now) so I could get the truck on the road and possibly wheeling. The old shocks were mix and match on all 4 corners and the ruck would bottom out over anything more then a expansion joint. I though I would try some 2nd gen taco coils and a add a leaf in the rear. I installed the lift along with my topper that is meant for a mid 80s Toyota Pickup. I picked up a set of never installed 4x4innoviations sliders off of craigslist, on those went.

    Taco%20sliders%20topper_zps3n8h7yjn_bbbeb0d427b6f1518193e619431e74609eb80c44.jpg

As you can see, the pain is ugly and the front bumper is missing. The one that was on there was so ugly I took it off and scrapped it before taking any pics.

Well, you would think with me needing a front bumper I would start building there. Nope, I found a good deal on a DIY rear bumper. It was from Rhino All Terrain, the price was right so I had to jump. I wanted a tire carrier because last year at Rock Therapy I won a Trasharoo and need a place to mount it, No other reason then that, back off. Really, I felt I was falling behind in expo points and needed a boost. As of this time, none of my vehicle have any LEDs......................... Old School!

Anyways, The bumper came pre cut. All I had to do was weld, brace and clean it up.

    Rearbumpermockup_zps11f27108_8d3ef311e578faaf346bf0a2065060456ee1147f.jpg

    Tack it up.

I had to build the tire carrier. I used 2" square 1/8" thick. The spindle and latch was provided by Rhino.

With the Tacoma I have a slight rough idle. It was never enough to set the check engine light until my family trip to Moab. The 1st start after making the trip it set the light for a p0300. I couldn't feel a misfire so I cleared the codes and dove it the 4 days there without another light. It drove fine for the tip home but the next morning on the 1st start it set the p0300 again. I cleared the codes and had been light free for a couple weeks. A bore scope and coolant pressure test didn't turn up anything, I was thinking there might be a blown head gasket or cracked head (it is not completely ruled out). I had a set of fuel injectors laying around so I thought I would just throw them in, possibly my OEM ones were old and restricted.

Well, it didn't change the rough idle feel. The fuel trims dropped from about 8% long to 3% long at idle. So the injectors might have had a slight restriction. The possibility of some other previous work causing this vibration crossed my mind, I might need to pull down the timing cover and do an inspection. Or even possibly the fan/clutch/bracket was damaged running that massive imbalance for 20k miles.

My next update on the truck should be pictures of starting the DIY front bumper from Relentless Fab. I have the frame ends cut, I just need to get time to work on it more.
