I am wondering when I would use these functions and how they work. Anybody know? I have a 2wd so it would be great to know i have alternatives when I get stuck. Yes i used the search bar but not any clear answers. You either know or you don't lol...

What does it mean when the lights turn on? The traction control is off i know but what about A-LSD? Is it making the 2 wheels spin like a locker? Ahhh so confused lol

    Thanks Sam...
Javi, if you need more 'splaining on what this all means, just ask!
A quick push of that button enhances the limited slip if one tire spins to help the power go to the other tire with traction. AUTO LSD is not as 'pure' as a locker, but better than standard TRAC.

Also any input on prerunner sand driving?

Tire pressure to 15-20 all tires.
    Traction control off.
    Stay away from sugar sand.
    Tow strap.
    Traction boards.
    Luck.

    Any input would be appreciated

I am for sure going to see what I can get away with but any help to prevent getting stuck would be awesome.

It shouldn't void if you go through Dealer, but you'll also get raped if you go through Dealer:jerkoff:

The locker comes with the Off Road TRD package... 2WD or 4WD.
Toyota does not add it on at the dealer. This would be an after-market add-on, like from ARB.
For sand driving DO NOT turn off the traction control. Use AUTO LSD if you are a 2WD and have no locker.

Understand that traction control (limited slip) divides power between the two back tires... not evenly as a locker does, but more so than with no traction control... which will likely find you having ONE rear tire spinning/ digging in and the other doing nothing (Hasn't everyone seen 'My Cousin Vinny' yet?).

In sand, you don't need power as much as you need floatation. If your tire spins, back off the gas and do NOT dig yourself in deeper... Just more work to get you out. Instead, STOP and let MORE air OUT of the tires. 2WD, would best start at 10 psi and no worries. If you start at 20 and get stuck, then it's too late to try 15. Just go to 10, all four tires... do not drive fast and do not turn sharply or brake suddenly.

4WDs can start at 20 psi and if the truck doesn't float (ie. struggles), stop and drop to 15. Use H4 and leave the traction controls on. 2012+ do the quick press for TRAC OFF mode. This is NOT traction control off, this is TRAC with engine regulation off.

Different sand, different weather (humidity) all contribute to what it takes to 'float' on sand. The same beach in Baja I go camping on will sometimes require different air pressure to easily drive on it.

When you decide to stop (on the beach) do so pointing straight (steering wheel not cranked) and if the beach has a slope, point the truck downhill. The whole idea is to be able to begin rolling with minimal resistance so the (rear) tires (in your case as a 2WD) do not spin. Clear away any sand from in front of your tires before moving. The sand acts like tire blocks. If necessary, use a bucket (bring a bucket) to pour sea water in front of the tires. Wet sand is easy to drive on or at least to get moving on. Light pedal, no spinning at all, at least until you are moving! Spinning tires are like backhoes... they dig down but don't move you forward well, at all!
