...and Diesel tacoma would be a dream come true! A nice common-rail turbo 4 cylinder diesel would be perfect! But imagine the $$$ for that puppy. How much are diesel Hilux in Europe and Australia?

I am all for a diesel Tacoma. But it will be super expensive. The price would probably out wiegh the fuel economy benefits...check out the Hilux diesel prices in australia http://www.toyota.com.au/hilux

Yes the "new feeling" goes away... just get a URD SS & that will help with the throw.. you just get used to the feel.

I've heard the B&M has a solid feel, but because it's a solid shifter, you'll get the vibration inside, just like a tuning fork... the URD is an extension, so it retains the stock shift lever, a 2-piece unit with rubber between both halves.

I just got an '08 in June and put near 6k miles on her already. I want to trade up to something like your 650, an SV650 or a super moto/dual sport next spring. I also like the Versys for some reason.

Versys and the Ninja 650 are almost the same bike. Same engine and share alot of other parts as well. Any of the 650's are a great choice after you've rode the 250 for a while.

My Yaris shifts much smoother. I am sure it is normal for the trucks to feel stiffer but bear in mind the drivetrain in a Tacoma is much stronger than a light weight FWD car, just the price one pays for capability. I would not be concerned but it does take some getting used to.

painted door handles, bilstein 5100's front and back, K&N air filter. Precision power component speakers and Kenwood deck.
In my 06 reg cab prerunner I noticed hard shifting from first to second "clunk" noise. I have tried to take the rpm alittle past 3k to see if that would help and sometimes yes sometimes no. Maybe its just me. all the other gears seem to engage just fine.

Mine has got a good solid thunk from 1-2, fairly smooth from 2-3, an 3-4 and 4-5 are butter. I kind of like it. It feels good and solid.

the OP should just make a TDI jetta truck! haha nah nnah

but yeah the shifting in the 5 speed is pretty good...i mean...compared to a car it is clunky...the throws are long and not as precise...but for a truck it is pretty good...with time thogh it does get better, i bought my truck new and for the first month or so it was a bit sticky

    2010 Taco I4 4x4 Access cab shifts a bit clunky on 1st, 2nd, 3rd, but 4th and 5th transition smooth.......but i've only had it for about 18 hours.....so we'll see if that gets better/worse.

I must say though.....i should have gotten a taco sooner!

PS - love the backup camera too, haha

i don't like the 2-3 shift, never is smooth, and never slides into gear well. the 1-2 shift is sometime clunky, but i think i have that down pat. its a truck not a car, i shift slow, and smooth. i have no need to rip gears in a 4 banger truck.

My Tacoma is not as smooth shifting as my 5-speed Yaris, always thought it was a truck vrs car thing. By the way, my Yaris generally averages 45 MPG commuting to work, got 49 mpg coming back from Michigans UP recently, love both vehicles.
