    OME and worth every penny.
I'd say more blame goes to PO than mechanic. But if you saw him pick up a glob of sludge and put it BACK into your head, why in the world dinnitt you change the oil immediantly?

First of all, thanks. Glad you enjoyed the read.

To answer some of your questions:

I changed the old engine's oil at 3k religiously with quality product. I can't really speak for the preventative maintenance of the previous owner.

I say inept mechanic because he should have known not to mess with the sludge. He should have at least known not to scrape it off and leave it in the engine. On top of that, after I began to have oil pressure problems, he thought it was a faulty oil pressure sensor after he had just messed with it. Granted, I can't escape the blame as I did trust his decision making. I followed his recommendations and kind of put my faith in his abilities so yea, shame on me too.

The engine has been in my truck for 20k now and I haven't had a single problem. It hums! With my old motor, I was getting about 16 mpg...I have stretched this one to 23 mpg. I am now using Mobil 1 full synthetic and because I can get it cheaper than the stuff I was using before, I still change it at 3k.

Sorry about your troubles, but that's an awesome outcome....I've got 203k on a 3.4 and I'd kill to run across the deal you got. Ebay wants $2k for a 50,000 mile engine.
