Install the new centering pin, and tighten down snug. No torque value to this, just get it tight.
Then, Cut the excess threads off the centering pin, leaving about 1/4" of thread exposed, then raise axel back into position:

can someone tell me why everyone cuts the excess threads off the centering pin???
I did the AAL and did not cut the excess threads from the centering pin and does not affect anything at all.. is it just for looks?? so it looks better??.. i know the instructions also said to cut the excess..

The excess threads get cut off to allow the bump stop to fit correctly.

it fits perfectly fine without cutting the excess threads... the only reason i can see people cutting it off is just for looks... it does not affect anything in anyway... if it does can someone tell me how it affects something?? if it does i'll get back in there and cut the excess...

Perhaps in your truck it does. I have not seen a truck that doesnt need the center pin cut down. Unless, an OEM center pin is used. In which case, it may come the correct size. I use a universal centering pin most of the time. They are 8" long, and most assuredly need to be cut.

well the centering pin does stick out quite a bit, it's way longer than the stock centering pin that's for sure. But it doesn't get on the way of anything else so i just left it like that. I was gonna cut it, but then thought to myself there was no reason to do so and my brother took a look at it too and agreed so i guess i'll leave it like that!!

ur right,,,, i think the set up for you guys with second gen tacomas is a little different and the excess thread needs to be cut off to fit the bump stop that goes over it right??? i was just looking at the pics and noticed that.. and well i have a first gen so it does not have the bump stop on top of the centering pin!!! That is probably the reason im guessing... right???..

The First gen 4x4's and Prerunners DO have a bump stop that goes over the center pin. If yours doesnt, looks like your missing it, or it fell off.

X2 - definitely have the bump stop on my 2001, and my centering pin DID need to be cut so the bump stop fit over it correctly.

yeah mine doesn't have a bump stop.. don't know if he previous owner might have taken it out or if it feel off, but it's missing on both sides. Do you guys know if it's really necessary?? what's the purpose for it???

It stops the suspension from hitting the frame. I think its necessary.

Used this write-up to help another member install AAL last night. Had a complication when the axle dropped a little further than I intended and then moved back so the pin didn't line up anymore. Nothing a little creative winching couldn't fix.

damn i used the stock u bolts on my 2nd gen. the ones in the aal kit seemed way too long. i got 1/8th and inch thread sticking out on the stock ubolts. so i figured it was fine. should i switch it to the longer ubolts that came with the aal?

If you think you have enough threads I guess you'd be fine but Chris4x4 told me not to use the stock ones. He'd be better to ask.

Its not recomended to re use U bolts. That being said, I have done so in the past, but be sure to not over torque them.

Are Shackles worse than AAL? Any comments on shackles would be helpful

You can't get a shackle lift unless you do a shackle flip kit first. It's a little difficult, but you can get it from Armor Tech here on the forum.

With a shackle flip, you get more articulation and lift without stiffer springs.

    AAL is way easier though.
