I'm a tard, you have a 1st gen. The flip kit is only required for 2nd gen trucks.

I see there is some confusion about the torque specs of the U bolts. Chris says the torque is 73 ft-lbs. The FSM (What is FSM an acronym for?) states 37 ft-lbs. I have a subscription to alldatadiy.com and it also states 37 ft-lbs. Does alldatadiy.com get their information from this FSM?

I'm installing an AAL and 2* shims on top of my TSB springs this week. I'm sitting here looking at the new U bolts. They are big and beefy which makes me think 73. The thread is kind of fine which makes me think 37. However, the nuts are like an inch tall which makes me think it has plenty of purchase for 73. I also plan to pay attention to the force required to remove the U bolts on my recently done TSB's.

I'm trusting you on this one man and going with 73...

Yeah. I have talked with a bunch of people that think the 73# is correct. I personally, have never seen a U bolt torque spec as low as 37 ft- lbs.

I used to have a first gen, I swapped the factory springs with AAL for new leafs. Thus i still have the 1st gen leafs and AAL in my garage. I now have a 2nd gen with 3 leaf packs and no warranty which means no TSB. The truck was lifted when I bought it with spacers up front and blocks in the rear. It sits perfectly level right now but i want some extra strength in the rear for this summer when I hook up the boat. This said, I am still trying to figure out, Is there a difference in 1st and 2nd gen AAL? How much lift do you get from them? I have 265/70/17 and i measured from floor to fender 38" if that helps.

Shackles are great if you want a short lift. I have both on my Taco, and they are better than a block lift. The AAL adds to a stiffer suspension but also more load capacity. If you are in an area where you rock crawl, then don't go with a AAL as it reduces your flex slightly. I moved to Idaho and there are no rocks in the north to crawl over so the AAL works great for me. I do plan on replacing my springs with Alcan springs sooner or later.

Is this virtually the same for installing an AAL on a 1st gen?

    getting there....
there is a mod for the rear diff breather, but none really needed for the front diff or transfer case, as they are already extended into the engine compartment fenderwell.

Just curious, why are you getting an alignment? Did you change the front end as well, or is an alignment needed with just an AAL install?
