Nothing in the FSM points to it needing to go in any specific direction.

I run mine with a 2" AAL and a 1.25" shackel lift. I personally like to have the bed of my truck higher so when I load it I still maintain a high amount of clearance for off roading. I know that some people like the level look so I would suggest a 1" lift. If you want the stock angel look, then go with the 2".

Also the springs won't settle evenly so don't freak out in your first couple of weeks with them when your truck lists to one side of another.

depends on how much difference you have right now. I have a shell on mine, no tsb, and have a 1.5 on mine. Billies set right now at 1.75. If they don't settle too much, I can set at 2.5 and still be level.
if you like rake, go with the higher aal. If you want level, go 1.5

Try "FatBob's Garage", they sell a AAL from Stanley Springs.

Awesome Sticky. I managed to get my 1.5" AAL from ToyTec installed in a couple of hours with my laptop on top of my work bench. I've learned more about trucks in the last few months of hanging out on this forum then in the last several years. This place is costing me a fortune.

Did you put 5100s on at the same time as the AAL? Since I'm doing both toytec AAL and 5100s, is it best to go ahead and put the 5100s on when I do the AAL?

If you're putting the 5100's on the rear then you might as well do it when you do the AAL because you have to remove the shocks anyway. If you're talking about the front end then the worst that will happen is a wicked rake back to front if you don't do the 5100's at the same time. I did the front end on Saturday and the rear end on Sunday. Took about 3 hours each day and I spent a lot of time reading these threads on my laptop while I did the work.

How long was install for "most" of you?
As my rear lift drama continues, I am picking up a toytec 2" aal today, which is to replace a 1.5" block, which replaced a 1.5 fabtech aal.
Would like to do it tomorrow after work.. have at least 4-5 hours of light before I gotta bust out the work lights.. do-able?

What was wrong with the Fabtec? The reason I ask is that's what I have right now and I'm pretty happy with it. It probably took me, alone and unassisted, about 4 hours total?

For me.. the fabtech started squeaking BAD..every little stop and go getting out of the truck, closing a door.. I hear that this doesn't happen ALL the time, but is a common problem esp. for AALs that don't have the anti-friction pads. toytec comes with the pads, so I will try my luck with those..

ALL - Am doing this, and want to do it right.. Did you remove both wheels, and remove the center pin on both sides at the same time? or did you work one side completely, the the other side completely. The pics look like the passenger wheel is still on, until the "dropping of the axel" that pic shows that the pass wheel is no longer on. Could you do steps leading up to dropping the axel on both sides, then lower the axel and add the leaf on both sides, then raise the whole axel up to complete both sides?

I don't know if there's a better way to do it, but I took both wheels off and had the truck up on jack stands under the frame. After that, I did 1 side at a time. I don't think I'd want to take both sides off at the same time, too many bolts and pieces laying around, plus you don't have the "together" side to refer to if you forget something. I can't really see any advantage to taking off both sides at the same time, but maybe others can say differently?
