I'm about to buy my first Tacoma!!! I've been looking for about a month and I'm specifically looking for 2001-2004, double cab, v6 2x4

I found one for sale on craigslist locally and here are the specs:
2001 Toyota Tacoma, Pre Runner, Double Cab, V6, White exterior. Automatic, Clean title,
It has 81k miles and looks to be in pristine condition. It has brand new BFG All Terrains, and a Factory installed TRD Supercharger. All maintenance is up to date.
The guy wants $16,000 for it. What does everyone think its worth?
I've been browsing craigslist for awhile and people seem to want anywhere between 14-18k for ones with 100k miles +.

Is there anything I should look out for? Just seeing if there's any heads up before I go back to discuss price, and what a fair asking price would be.
    Thanks- First time poster! :)

Edit: These are a couple of pics I snapped when I went to go look at it.

If this is in the wrong section, please let me know, I couldn't find a better suited section. Didn't want to post it in Sell/Buy because I'm just trying to get opinions on the Vehicles value. Also, the truck does not have any frame rust or any mechanical flaws from what I could tell.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Seems kinda high for a 2wd. I paid 14k for my 2004 4x4 DC with only 75k on the odometer. Offer him 14k and see what happens.

Thanks, it seems to me that the price fits the truck. Is it a great deal? Probably not, is it a bad deal? That's in the eye of the beholder. I'm definitely going to haggle with the dude a little bit. I was thinking the most I would be looking to pay is $15.5 but if I could talk him down a little then cool.

Is there any major deal breakers or haggling tips for these trucks, such as frame rust, timing belt, any major maintenance specific to these trucks?

I would be happy to pay $14k, only 81k on the odo. And it has the TRD Supercharger, I know that doesn't raise the price by a whole lot but it beats buying a truck for 14k, and spending another 3k+ installing it myself.

I'd guess he isn't expecting full asking price. Sounds like a great truck though. I'd love the supercharger.

I wasn't even looking for a Supercharged one to begin with. Was eventually going to install one anyways. I seem to have a need to go fast haha. Definitely not looking to abuse it (said no one ever) but I need that get up and go. 190 HP just doesn't do it for me. I'm going to check it out again on Saturday and probably make an offer.

kbb rates it at 13k for Very Good condition for the mileage and year. with the S/C it'd be worth more obviously. maybe 14.5 is a good middle ground depending on how long the S/C has been on there (factory installed is wrong, dealer installed is right but at what mileage point)

Yah,,about 14 sound right. I would hold there,,maybe give him another $250 above that if it feels right. It's 2wd also.

Regardless,,it was fully "tested" with that Super on there and he put new tires on there for the sale apparently. Superchargers like to eat tires among other things. So it's been hammered on a bit, keep that in mind.

Plenty of trucks for sale out there, no need to get locked to this one.

Would love a Super also,,but not critically needed.

I wonder what kind of hit on the fuel economy the s/c has.

Agreed hah. On another note, I pulled the Carfax, 1 owner, supercharger was dealer installed at 60k. So it's been on the truck for 21k miles. All maintenance seems up to date witj oil, tranny, spark plugs, suspension etc... nothing major jumped out at me. Clean title, no accident, theft, water damage (that was reported) Water Pump was replaced but I don't see anything about a timing belt. Is timing belt for these trucks at 90k? That's something to consider I guess. Shouldn't be too bad, I can do the work my self on a weekend if need be. Kbb in my area in very good condition rates at 14k. Thinking about offering 13.5 and taking it from there. New tires is something to think about too, he could have been roasting them and installed new ones for resale value.

If you stay off the stupid pedal, none. At least that's what I've seen with conservative driving. I get between 17 and 18 mpg which is what I got before install.

With liberal use of the stupid pedal, I have seen it as low as 14mpg.

16k seems high to me for a 2WD but the S/C will give lots of smiles per gallon. Might want to check if it has the 7th injector installed.

Not sure of your location but, yes, get under the truck and check for major rust. If it were me, I'd be offering 12k but that's because it is 2WD and I'd be looking at swapping over the MT and 4WD from my truck.

Ended up passing on this one. Dude wouldn't come down at all even tried offering him 15k and he bumped the price to 17... still on the lookout in California area. Thanks for all the input guys. Oh and the supercharger had a terrible noise to it and it was leaning oil. Had to pass on that one.

sounds like you made the right move. someone not willing to budge or talk seems fishy. plus increasing the price during talks is a shady playa.

bad noise and leaking oil means the s/c needs rebuilt and while not expensive it's money out of your pocket.

At that price, unless you're stuck on a 1st gen, I'd throw a couple thousand more and get a second gen. The first gens do hold their value well since they have a big fan base, but if you're planning on owning it for the long haul, get the newer technology.
