Did I mention I haven’t driven a stick in nearly a decade?

Have had trouble finding a MT OR let alone a Pro up here in WA state. Lot of first come first serve, or allocations already claimed. Some willing to take a deposit with no real ETA since the MT is a bit harder to find.

For the hell of it I expanded the search into northern CA and found 4 Pros sitting on lots. After an afternoon of lots of phone calls, I know have a one-way ticket for this Friday AM and a 900+ mile drive back home this weekend.

Let say driving stick is like riding a bike, right?!

The weather is VERY bad here right now. Many passes are or will be closed. You may need to check routes for getting home.... Drive safe and have food/water/warmth

I've let a few friends and family drive my vehicles over the years, even after they had become "rusty." There were no issues after the first few starts and stops. You'll be fine; just be careful and enjoy your trip.

Also, good job on holding out on a stick.

It really is riding a bike. Although, there is a doohickey in the clutch system that can make it feel like you are a newbie. The accumulator messes with clutch engagement and is noticeable in shifts with larger RPM differences.

I don't want to spook you and think that the drive will be fine. Just if you start questioning yourself, that is likely the culprit.

Be safe, congratulations, and welcome aboard matey:wave:, you’ll be fine on the shifting, just take it easy and feel her out, slow is smooth, smooth is fast.

Thanks, I heard. Was considering taking a slightly longer route but with the weather going to stick to I-5 and watch closely.

Good to hear! Yeah, the stick is the only reason I’m getting the Tacoma. Really the only reason I’m getting a second car for our family to begin with. I know I’ll want one eventually, but with it likely being discontinued in the next gen, don’t want to push my luck and miss out.

    Hopefully!

Hah! Didn’t even call them after seeing that price.

Agreed to MSRP. Truck already had the factory and port installed options I was wanting.

    Good work!

I hate seeing people pay 65k for a 50k tacoma.

Congratulations and welcome to TW. Sounds like a great adventure! Before picking up my Taco in May 2021 I last drove manual in my 2003 VW diesel Jetta. I stalled once when I picked up my truck at the dealership. In the 27,000 miles since, I have stalled maybe twice, so give yourself some leeway, because after a few shifts, you’ll be driving better than ever. Great truck!

Have a great road trip! I am loving my new MT TRD Sport just got a few weeks ago. Drove it on a ski trip from Massachusetts to Maine during the holiday week and loved every mile of it. One quirk I found is the Reverse is upper left which is strange but it beeps and the backup cam goes on so it's pretty obvious you are not in 1st. I personally have not found the clutch accumulator to be too noticeable but I don't drive it like a Supra. Congrats on the Pro.

Ironically I did the reverse and bought mine in Seattle and drove back to the bay to get my MT Pro. Manuals are hard to come by especially in the pros and you have to be flexible on location and sometimes color.

Did something very similar. Drove it back from Denver to Memphis, hadn't owed a manual vehicle in 3 years. Was a little rough at first, but after a while its back to normal.

I will say be prepared for 5th gear to be shorter/closer to 4th than you think, just shift a little more quickly than you would the rest of the gears.

Grip it, rip it, and change the oil when you get home for good measure. Enjoy the drive!

Congrats! Not sure where in Northern CA you are picking up, but I'd be sure to swing by some of the breweries around the area if thats your thing. If you travel through Sonoma County (Henhouse, Cooperage, Old Caz, Russian River, and Parliament to name a few).

You may want to follow the break-in procedures for that long a drive from new. Personally, I'd have it shipped considering what you will pay for airfare, gas, food, lodging, your time, risk etc..

Breaking in your new Toyota To extend the life of the vehicle, observing the following precautions is recommended: ●For the first 200 miles (300 km): Avoid sudden stops. ●For the first 500 miles (800 km): Do not tow a trailer. ●For the first 1000 miles (1600 km): • Do not drive at extremely high speeds. • Avoid sudden acceleration. • Do not drive continuously in low gears. • Do not drive at a constant speed for extended periods.
