255/85 for gas mileage but 285/75 because they look really good on a 3 inch lift

I tried to get a few different angles so you can see the clearance. In the photo from underneath, you can see the exhaust hanger than I moved a bit to let the tire center itself.

Thanks, this does help and gives me ideas. I have the Flowmaster duals, and when I put the 285 up there it just hits the exhaust for the drivers side. By moving it like you did, I will be able to fit the tire up there with out it rubbing on the exhaust. Thanks for the pic's, great help.

everyone is a great help on this site, vast amount of knowledge and insight, it's much appreciated.

I'm indecisive as hell, so now I'm debating 255 st maxx. This fits in the spare space as well?

Back to the TRD trail team wheels, are these gonna need spacers for certain if I go 285?

Last questiom- really any major real world gas mileage differences between the two??

255s are skinnier which gives a tad better gas mileage.

Yeah the 255 will fit underneath

I don't know the back spacing on the TRD trail teams is but about 4.5 back spacing is what's needed for no spacers

If your worried about gas go 255
    285s you'll definitely see a gas difference I get about 250 miles a tank with 285/70/17

Sure 285s look great on my truck but they will rub. Off-roading I wish I had 265s, driving to the grocery store 285s look better.

How bad is rubbing in typical daily driving? Have you cut the cab mount?

Thanks for all of the input everyone!

    255's.

Little to no trimming. None on mine as I posted above on OR wheels. It's more the width that gets you on clearance issues.

They're still 33's. But the spare won't hang down from under the truck as much.

That's my .02 But, if you want the wide tire sticking out look, you won't be happy with 255's

I personally like the tall skinny look. I saw one pic on the forum of another guy running 255's and there was no question. For me

I cut my fenders just a hair and didn't do the cab chop, like above I just said screw it and went with looks. The scrubbing is not that bad on a daily basis for me.

What size of spacer; do you have a 285 spare underneath?

285 because it looks great and I've had modded vehicles my whole life. Had to trim fenders and CMC but it doesn't matter to me. Love the look and I really don't care about mileage, when it's empty I fill it up.
