I have read this topic, and some others. The confusion becomes when people post are the truck 2WD or 4WD.

Also some have mentioned pulling the ABS 50 amp fuse.

If the 50 amp fuse is removed, does this disable the VSC also? Also disables the throttle cut when VSC is activating?

For this mod there is no need to pull the fuse. As far 2wd or 4wd this mod is for 4wd off road pkgs only. The only exception is if you have a factory locker. There is another thread on 2wd and TRD sport pkgs.

To all the folks that put your ABS kill sw. In an inconspicuous spot, GOOD FOR YOU!!

took truck in to dealer to have seat heater fixed. They bumped my dash mounted sw. Freaked out over the ABS "codes" they were getting. Reflashed truck with kill sw in the "killed" state. Now as soon as you start the truck and move a couple inches the TRAC light comes on and all my safety and traction features don't work. Had tons of fun explaining this one but now they flashed again with kill sw in "normal" state and all is well.

    Sept all my GD presets...........

I don't have all the traction control junk on my 05. It's actually why I specifically wanted another 05 when I was truck shopping last summer. No TPMS either. Took me a while to find one that was nice enough to buy but I found one. Anyway I absolutely hate the ABS in these trucks. It's downright dangerous in the snow. My BMW has ABS that actually helps instead of hurts. So in my last 05 and in this one I simply just put the big square ABS fuse in the underhood fuse box on a switch. Pulled it out, made one lead to connect between it and the fuse box on one "leg" of it and the other side I did the same thing but put a factory Toyota 2 pole fog light switch inline. With the switch "on" everthing is normal. With it off I have no ABS. Which is perfect. I do have to restart the truck to get the ABS to kick in but that's minor. Best part is no factory wires were cut or spliced into doing it.

The original post says, “The mod works by tricking the 4WD ECU into thinking that the rear diff is locked”. Stupid question…….Does the rear diff lock actually engage or is the light just on because its “tricked” into thinking its locked?

Thank you so much for the explanation. I did this mod today on my 2011 Taco after sliding into the back of another car in a snow storm last night. I literally could not stop. I slid for over 20' below 1 mph with the damn abs pulsing the whole time. After the mod, I went and tested it in similar conditions and stopped way shorter, although I did have to "drive" the truck because it did get a little sideways on me. I didn't mind that because I could actually stop. I wish I knew about this awesome mod before my fender bender that's probably going to make my insurance go up I'm sure. I love that I can have abs on in normal conditions and switch it right off in the snow, mud, off-road, etc. Thanks for figuring this all out whoever you are. It's the bomb!

In the process of checking my splice but the only light I'm seeing is the rear diff locker light. It's very faint but it does come on.

Found this. I will try to clean up some of my posts if it allows me to do so. My switch too is lighting up when on... I will try simply connecting the two wires which should tell me if I have a weird switch or if it's hooked up wrong.

Sure enough... swapped the grounded wire to the connection labeled power on the switch and shazam... works perfect. No neat light on the switch which was expected. What an idiot :D

So YES this works on a 2013 OR and is the same wire in the OP. Just make sure you hook up the switch right and if you can solder I recommend that over a splice... or at least strip the factory wiring a little bit so you make sure you have contact.

When you pop the fuse and loose a/C, radio, windows, and your dash looks like a Christmas tree, replace the IGN 1 no 2 Fuse.

Great write up, I would really like to do this. One question however... Do insurance companies get upset at this? I would hate to get into an accident and then have insurance not pay out because I had installed a switch to disable my abs...

Your question is outside the scope of the thread, we'll answer it, however if you want to discuss it further please create a new thread.

OZ is right, and BGR's advice is good too.

The answer to your question is, No. They do not care. They will pay the claim no matter what. The only time they get "upset" is if you break the law. I.E. commit insurance fraud (file a false claim).

Hope that clears it up for you.

    :)

Thanks for the responses, sorry if it was too off topic. Just thought I would ask. I just started living in the snow and I've already been dealing with the abs kicking in. I understand how to do install the switch and do the mod so maybe I'll try and do this this weekend or next before it snows again. Thanks everyone
