Ya know that could be related to the rear drums on the 2007 were not adjusted properly. As noted above the rear drums are self adjusting but only if you give the truck a good workout in reverse gear. I think the proper method is to put the ebrake about half engaged, then reverse the truck pumping the brakes for 30 yards and do that several times.

There is also the problem with older trucks that people do not do a full brake system flush every few years or say 30,000 miles. It's surprising how much difference there is in braking power and performance after a FULL brake fluid flush. Not a bleeding at the axles, but a full flush with new fluid. Brake fluid wears out just like everything else. Rubber seals especially on drums get worn out and let some air into the system.

Shifting into neutral has been a tried and true method on slippery surfaces for about 100 years whether it's an auto or a manual. You're trying to STOP. If you're in gear that means you are still moving forward. It's a very simple concept, but apparently very difficult to grasp by some.

I've been driving in snow for 20+ years and never once shifted into neutral and have never had an issue stopping until getting this 2014 Tacoma. The ABS system is garbage, end of story.
Some of the people on this forum are so in love with their trucks that they fail to realize there are problems with the design of their precious trucks. Its like being stuck in a relationship with a crazy girl friend. :D
It would be helpful if people tried to get the issue resolved rather than pretending like it doesn't exist or making excuses for the truck by assuming its driver error.

I see you're only up to 18000 posts now after rolling over at 92000 posts about six times since I've been on the board. You must have found a job. Congratulations. Maybe now you can save up some money and move out of your parent's basement pretty soon.

I was going to unsub from this thread because the back and forth is always the same. But the inevitable butt hurt that happens is usually entertaining.

Seems to be growing old, people that experienced it vs. the ones who have not.

... I just found this thread after experiencing what some have written about here. Some background before I continue.. I've owned a number of modified vw prior to my x-runner (which I've owned now for 3 weeks). So I'm used to messing about with speed and quickly being able to reduce speeds down where/when it is necessary without issue.

So with that said yesterday I took the rare opportunity to open up the truck a bit. Pulled over and let traffic behind me past and waited until I had ample room. Hit the accelerator and got up to around 100kph when I realized the person in the distant was in fact stopped waiting to turn left. I hit the brakes and was quite shocked when the truck seemed not to be slowing down in proportion to both my previous experience in my vw' s and in relation to the pressure on the brake pedal... It was an experience I'll be avoiding in the future. Pavement was dry but had it's share of bumps and dives... Felt like the brakes were inoperable to be honest. I may very well pull the abs fuse as there was no reason the truck needed that kind of distance to stop from those speeds.

Certainly try pulling the abs fuse and see if it makes a difference. Most of the issues people are having with the abs is that the system overreacts in snowy or icy conditions. Typically not on dry roads. VW's tend to handle quite well, so perhaps you're use to that.

Also, the brakes may need maintenanced. Perhaps cutting the rotors or new ones if they're worn, plus a fluid flush.
