Don't apologize to me. I'm not offended if you want to risk busting your plastic dash.

But your truck should get a bit of extra attention. Maybe wax her door jambs after you fix her blower problem.

My '11 has done it once or twice -- fan only works on one speed, or not at all. There is a resistor/connection behind the glove box. Rather than banging on it, I typically unplug it, wiggle the wires, etc. That seems to work. YMMV

I ordered the resistor just to replace it anyways. 10 year old truck won't hurt as I have had THAT issue as well. Did change out my cabin filter as it was pretty dirty. Got a fancy washable K&N. There were a few leaves stuck in the motor fan thingy. I didn't see any other harness that looked burnt out in there. I need to go back in this weekend and thoroughly take each harness/connector out and recheck again.

You can get a new Blower fan from O'Reilly. It comes with a LIFETIME warranty. So anytime down the road if it starts making noise you can just trade it in for a new one.

Regarding the resistor, if you havent swapped it out now is a good time do it. Get the new style solid state one. Then your "I only have one speed" problem should be resolved. Now while changing out thta resistor you see the connector to it, or the one down the line on it is cooked, go to the junk yard and find one that's not cooked and take it.

Subbing again. A/C went out again. Pretty sure it's the wiring. Gonna go check out Oreilly for that blower. Then junk yard to cut a new harness

    Add me to the list.

I first noticed the fan speed "flicker". Almost like a brownout where the lights dim but don't turn off completely. Fan would fade in blowing and come right back. Read online that it was the resistor. Then, the fan stopped blowing all together.

Ordered the new one and the new harness from Toyota dealership (about $40). Crimped the new harness on. Plugged everything in and voila. Had cold A/C for about 3 days.

First it flickered and then it went out. Now, I'm back to a fan that won't blow.

Ok, went out and pulled the cabin air filter, which was full of stuff even though it hasn't been in there 10k miles. Don't have a replacement available today, so that has been ordered. Got the big stuff out and stuck the vacuum hose into the blower housing just to see if it picked anything out.

Turned the truck key to the on position and the fan started blowing. :fingerscrossed: it's that simple...

Got a question for everyone who's had this issue.
    Here's the situation:
Was having the same issue, but did not know the person who owned the truck before me did as well, and instead of swapping the connector they spliced in two wires with spade connectors. I guess I shorted the wires after I swapped the resistor, I am not getting any power now. Blower motor won't turn on, checked all the fuses, including ones that have nothing to do with the HVAC, all good. The light on the "AC" button won't even turn on but the "recirculation" light will turn on.

Any chance I burned out the blower motor by shorting out the harness? Or could it be a different issue?

    Thanks.

Shorting + and - together should blow a fuse, not damage the blower. A short of the 12v to (before) the motor would mean 0 volts at the motor. I'm not familiar with newer solid state resistors, just the old coiled wire or high wattage resistor types on my 20+ year old trucks. I'd think if the 12v was shorted after a solid state resistor circuit, the circuit would be damaged if there was not a fuse after the circuit. Ideally, the fuse feeding (before) the resistor circuit would have blown if there was a short.

I had this problem and used a flashlight to wack the blower motor for the last year to get it to work. Finally that didn't work more than one second. I took the fan off and removed the plastic cover off of the fan motor and hit the metal motor housing while the fan blades where facing down several times with a hammer and saw a bunch of sediment that was black with copper filings fall out. I should have blown it out with an air compressor too but it's been working great now.
    ****UPDATE****
It started acting up again last month so I ended up replacing it. I'm sure I could have gotten more time by cleaning it again but I've got other problems to deal with. I bought one from Advance Auto Parts for $60.00 that had a bearing whine for the first two days but seems great now. It must have had to be broken in....

How is it working now? Still working good as you said? Mine is not blowing any air but it does have power. AC button light turns ON and everything but none of the speeds work and no air is blowing from the vents. It has happened before and I just hit the glove box but now it isn’t. I’m guessing I’m just going to clean the filter and the blower motor

Check the connector on the Resistor for burning. Also check the connector on the blower motor itself for burning. This is a common failure point.

They have a new connector and resistor out that is different.

    Motor connector.

Check power and ground at the blower motor, if both are good it needs a new blower motor.

Resistor is bypassed on high so if high doesn't work either then it's something else.
