Both, it seams the gearing thru it off quite a bit though. I check it with the gps and its off about 10 mph at 80. i was going to go to the dealer and see it they can reprogram it, highly doubt it but wishful thinking gets me thru the day. I tried the hypertech unit, p.o.s. didnt even work at all. couldve been a bad unit but i duno

Someone already said it. Regear is your best option. I'm running 456's with 32 inch tires. She pulls off the line fast and perky all around.

^ do you do mostly highway or city? I could imagine with 32's at cruising speed on the freeway your rpms being a little high

well when i was driving today i paied attention and my truck is pretty good off the line but i really thinkg that i can feel the headers more in low to mid rpm's.

Those aren't my dyno numers. Those dynos are from doug thorley and the bottom is from k & n. Both those dynos are directly from their websites. So judging by that, with an exhaust, intake and some header tuned properly with say the urd maf, our trucks should be doing something in the 150-160 whp range and something close to 175 torque. These dynos alone are what made me sad about the insignificant power results given from urd and their maf calibrator. Again idk what size tires or gears they used in the dynos; my guess would be stock 245/75/16 with 4.10's.

Also to note: to me horsepower means nothing, absolutely nothing. Never do I need my horsepower and never do I see myself needing it. Everything I do power wise is torque related. As my dd I see torque all day long and when offroading I see torque all day long, I have no need for horsepower.

are yall talkin about 1st gen? cuz the toyota website says 159hp and 180lb-ft torque for a stock 2.7L btw my truck has plenty of acceleration. its a lot faster than my old 4.3L v6 '97 sonoma

2nd Gen, Toyota's specs are not at the wheel, but I agree this 4cyl feels better than my 3.0L Ranger I had previously.

No 2nd gen. ^ and those number are crank not wheel. Automatic trannys lose a lot due to work they go through that's why wheel power is more with same engine and truck/car compared between auto and manual

For that fact I personally don't think any advertised/sticker/book whatever power ratings are ever wheel, I think they are all crank

I have a 2000 2.7l and have a K@N intake, LCE header, throttle body spacer, and a flowmaster muffler. All this and still nothing on the low end, say from 0-25 is horrible. However the top end is a totally different story. Very nice improvment. I know some things I have done is not helping and is possibly hurting the HP and torque.(hint-hint flowmaster and K@N)

I still say change gears, BravesFan has an auto with 3.58 gears. I doubt exhaust and CAI will help much the bottom end.

Hell ya with a 3.56 gtfo regearing is the only way to go.

Sounds like you got the exhaust flow going but do you know what that doesn for your exhaust velocity? Doesn't having free flow work great and all but then it comes does to exhaust velocity? Idk how to measure that or anything

Yeah she's pulling 3K rpms at 75mph. Not really that loud. I'm city...actually dirt mostly. Not too bad but great all around for dirt and street. If mostly street try 410's. 80 on the gauge is 70.

The formula is only about 3 equations. Help to know pipe diameter, length, material used and note any bends in the piping. The key thing is back pressure in exhaust aka headloss. Too much pressure you lose horsepower and too little you'll lose torque. So you want to go with the middle to get a good balance. It really isn't that much of a gain. Re-gearing will help everyones botom end power with a loss of top end. Key thing is to find the middle ground in gearing.

4.56 gears, rear trutrac,DT header, 235/85r16 Duratracs, 2nd filter pulled, inter.wipers, Cruise control, Factory alum. whls/winter tires(2nd set), Afe pro Dry-S , Dumbo eared flaps cut down.
The 4 banger accelerates fine, prolly the best among 4 cylinder 4x4s.
Comparing it to the dream truck, "those v-6s", or a full size is unrealistic.

Who doesnt want more acceleration.... no matter what you drive from golf carts to a mythical 2 second 0-60 sports car, we always try to shave a second off.

And yes , I pulled the 2ndary and put in a AfE just to see if I could get more. I'm considering undoing them n see if i get 1-2mpg back i feel i lost.
