Just a gen2 TRD shift knob so far. Anxiously awaiting ovTune 1.05 with handheld tuner!
Better not derail the thread with the wrong acronym... By ECT I mean TRAC.
    K?

While I'm a big fan of the wizardry of Orange Virus, it's a little out of my financial reach. The fact is... the acceleration response I get with TRAC pushed (long hold) is enough for me to enjoy engaged driving. So the question is: when you push and hold the TRAC button and shut off all the "help", what specifically is changing in the acceleration dynamics that makes for a more responsive pedal AND... is its effect similar to what you'd get with a Pedal Commander or is there an actual change in air/ fuel mix with the TRAC button selected?

Anyone ever put time and energy in trying to figure this out and is there a cost-savings solution that gains you the same effect without losing traction control?

Thanks and thanks for everyone's contribution to this forum over these few years. I've learned a lot.

Idk how ovt handles it, but ECT on stock, controls trans shift points and throttle scaling. An exaggerated example would be, 1/4 throttle with ECT on is like 1/2 throttle with ECT off. At least, afaik.

Shutting off traction control, shuts off traction control.

That's it. It doesn't change the acceleration at all. It may accelerate faster but only because traction control isn't limited torque to the rear wheels because of wheel spin, but this is only during heavy acceleration or slippery situations.

You're at risk of confusing some folks. There's no such thing as an ECT button on the 6MT...

I stuck an ECT button in the blank spot, just to see if anyone caught it.

First, I'd correct the thread title and your mention of "ECT" with respect to a manual trans Taco. Maybe you meant to say "TRAC"?

Anyway, any linkage between pushing and holding the TRAC button until VSC is "disabled" and throttle response under NORMAL driving conditions has been talked about several times with no real result or evidence.

I get that $700 is a lot to shell out for the tune, but there is another option for you WRT throttle response and low end power - find out what ECM calibration that '17 of yours is running, and if it isn't 04B13 update it!!

All the relevant info can be found here:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/software-update-for-the-manual.562550/

You'll still have some out of pocket expense if you buy the OBD II interface/cable yourself, bet hey.. Pedal Commander etc ain't free either.

    Enjoy

And beyond what @MOC221_ said, OVT accepts PayPal. So, you could buy the tune with 6mo free financing. That is what I did.

And if you are actually talking about the long press of the TCS Off button, the change in feel has been noted a few times. The person to ask about this effect would be @OVTune . None of us have the ability to dig into the operation far enough to understand what is going on with that change.

I find that when I push the TRD button, the truck just starts racing, it’s so awesome.
