I'm just now seeing this thread, but I made the exact same thing for my dog too. Kind of essential for us access cab guys without the seats.

Too much to name for this little space
    I uh... I mightve gone a bit further than most 20220401_183046.jpg 20220403_165718.jpg 20220521_101015.jpg 20220521_110024.jpg 20220521_113130.jpg
Next step is to build a flat, wood platform like the rest of the people here. It'll have 2 giant square cut-outs w/lid for storage

I started with rear seats and decided to swap with another forum member to convert it to a "no rear seats" version.
    With seats

    Without seats

Then I took inspiration from this and other threads on the forum to build a platform. The first thing was to take everything off from the storage compartment to the back wall, and line it with Noico 80mil sound deadening mat, and then Noico 180 mil foam (sorry no pics of that process). This helped cut down the road noise quite a bit.
Then I added some framing to give some additional height. There is a flat 2x4 at the rear of the storage compartments, and a 2x2 with a 1x2 under it on the front edge of the storage compartment. I attached the rear framing with some M8 bolts to threaded holes in the body. For the front edge of the storage compartment, I removed a couple of the push pins that hold the storage bin in place and put some long bolts with nuts through the framing and the hole for the push pin.

Then I cut some pieces of 1/2" plywood to make a front leg and the shelf. I cut the storage lids out so that they could rest on the framing below.

Next I painted everything black, added some 1/4" rubber on top, and trimmed it with aluminum channel to clean up the edge.

I used contact cement to glue the rubber to the lids.

I only keep the jack and tools on one side, and jumper cables and other emergency/breakdown items in the storage bin, so quick access isn't a big deal. I use different sized storage bins like the one in the picture below, or the storage area behind the front leg for regular use items.
Here it is with my best friend in her spot.

    Plywood - $50
    Rubber - $ 48 (from Tractor Supply)
3 pieces of aluminum trim - $ 24 approximately. (from Lowes)
    Hardware - $ 10 or less

I'm not sure I'd like that green eyed monster behind me as I'm driving.

The evolutions of the simple dog platform are amazing! Back when I built mine I wanted a quick and clean platform for my boy so he could enjoy the truck rides!! For whatever reason he was like a pinball in the back with the jumps seats!!

You steel shot, shotgun guys with ammo in your vehicle... Don't let that ammo sit in your vehicle forever, getting stale-- in humid places, the shot will be wanting to rust into a solid, incompressible, choke wrecking blob!
Otherwise, I would almost always leave just-in-case ammo in the back of my cab.

Thank you all for sharing your experiences it made making a basic platform for my dog Finley super easy. I got a pre cut shelf board 3/4 by 20 by 48 inches and cut 2 10.25 inch 2x4's for legs. Used some pipe insulation around the edges and wrapped it in a moving blanket from harbor freight double thick on top for some cushion. I think he approves.

2020 Trd sport with crew cab. The lay flat seats in the back made it easy for me. Bought a peace of luan (is that spelled right, thin sub flooring) covered it with indoor/outdoor carpeting... easy peasy... 92565BDD-C976-4E36-89E9-7967CCFA6949.jpg 4B8420E0-E617-4978-889B-1AC4343973EE.jpg99CF3EA3-A2AF-4DA0-B70A-038DDFB04212.jpg
