Greetings all, I'm a new member from Eastern Mass looking to buy a '17 Tacoma TRD OR.
I've got it down to 2 vehicles, an Access cab w/6' bed or a Double cab w/5' bed.
I'm early 60's, will retire in about 3 years but I'm very active, will use the truck to haul stuff to fix the house, etc and love to do camping/canoeing trips with my sons. My oldest and I have 'ADV' traveled thousands of miles on Suz Vstrom bikes in New England and Eastern Canada.
I would love to do the same i the Tacoma too.
The way I see it, the 6' bed would be more 'practical' for me. I could carry more in the back and it could be better suited for racks to carry the canoe or kayaks or dirt bikes.
The double cab with 5' bed seems more popular and probably has a better resale value(?) and I do like the idea of 4 'real' seats in the front.
The thing is, it's going to be just me riding in it 95% of the time, not sure I need all that space up front.
I would love to hear any opinions either way.

    Thanks,
    Henry.

Henry it seems that your needs actually shoots the accesscab, but you could have the best of both worlds and get dblcablb. Here's a side view of mine.

I went thru the same decision when I got mine, the only way I could get a manual off road was to take the double cab. I figured I could always add a roof rack, bed extender, or pull a small trailer if need be.

You can't do this in a DCSB.

Nope. Lower payload rating, especially if 4x4.

Did 1100 last week but no pic. With my bed extender I could have loaded another dryer.

I've considered the long bed Double cab but I can't find that one as a TRD OR in the color I want (Magnetic Gray Metallic). The pickins are getting slim around here for the OR versions and I really want the locking rear diff. :(

I recommend you order a 2018 with your desired specs.

And further more on your profile photo . You have labeled your truck as accesscab long bed. Isn't that the only kind of accesscab. Or is their a accesscab shortbed

Yes, I've seen the double cab Long Bed.
My son is saying "beware of too long of a wheelbase for serious off road"(?) He drives a Jeep.
In all honesty, my old brain is used to looking at a bed longer than the cab (I'm currently nursing a 2003 F150 4wd 8' bed through it's final miles).
It may sound silly to others but the Access cab 6' looks more 'normal' to me at this point.
Maybe I'll wait for the '18.

DCLB. Best of both worlds. I had an access cab and it's just too small inside.

The official configuration is Access Cab Long Bed according to Toyota.
