I went with the access cab and six-foot bed. Both of my sons are in college. My wife hardly rides with me, so I went with the 2 seater (don't count the flip seats as real seats).

I agree. Access cab is more elegant in my opinion too.

Then stick with your official version if that's what they call it. It's a funking truck. More elegant. Doublecabs are pretty oh so pretty. I think I will just skip out to mine and get out of this conversation

I went through exact same decision in the past few months. I am 55 and seldom have more than wife and I in vehicle. I ended up choosing double cab, short bed because:
    1) the access cab back seats are terrible for adults. Double cab is comfy for almost any adult.
    2) I really wanted an off road manual...so that was a big factor
    3) the double cab long bed will not fit in a standard garage, standard parking space...even if it were available with a manual.
    4) resale values seem to be higher for double cab, short bed
    Good luck with your decision.

The DCLB version basically removes most of the advantages of having a mid size truck, with wheelbase, width, and overall length within 5" of an F150 that has more power, towing, and MPG to boot.

If you plan on off roading, the DCLB may be too ponderous depending on your trails.

IMHO, if it's going to be just you the majority of the time, AC all the way.

Plus since everyone seems to want the DC you might be able to swing a better deal.

I'm biased cause I have the double cab.
I'm usually alone or the girlfriend. But dog is in back seat sometimes.

Can't put her in the bed so back seat it is. Besides you can still store some gear in the back.

I just finished doing a test fit for upcoming trip and found if I put the cooler in the back seat it saves me a lot of room in the bed and keeps it accessible for snacks and drinks.

And if you don't have a tonneau you get even more space as that's what's really screwing me over right now is the height under the cover.

    Henry,
In my opinion, the access cab is such a great configuration if you rarely need to chauffeur people.

6' bed is practical, and the area behind the seats is great dry secure storage.

I have been in the back seat of mine with my wife driving, about an hour trip, and it isn't terrible ( I am 6'-4", 215 lbs).

A minor consideration, but it is just proportionally better looking also.

Like many have said, figure out what you want and don't settle if you don't have to.

    Good luck.

I agree with the OP, I couldn't quite get comfortable with the DCLB. It was a mistake. If I could do it over I would get the DCLB. Access Cab is good 95% of the time, but when you need it you need it.

Nice choice in wanting an MGM Off Road, although I may be a little biased.

I couldn t have said it any better. They are not that harder to drive or park. The only thing that is a problem is the garages

That's pretty much where I'm at now. Really want the long bed, not sure about the DCLB.

Thanks to all for your opinions, much food for thought.
I'll post pics when I get the beast, whichever one it is.

I believe you've already answered your own question. Access cab all day. If I didn't have passengers in all day long I would have gone with the access. But, I am young and plan on having kids in the next few years and will have a lot of room with the double cab. Up until this moment, I have yet to need the extra foot in the bed, but I've definitely needed the space in the cab.

For your situation, you would work best with the access cab. I hope you get what you want and if you don't, the resale value is pretty high. haha.
