I am getting ready to put in some nice speakers, 4 channel, sub and mono amp... however unless I have been using the search button the wrong way for the last couple of hours (which I'm sure someone will point out to me when they come to the rescue :D) I cannot find a definitive answer as to properly hooking this stuff up to a factory head unit. Is there a plug in adapter or are there available hookups on the back? Just want to know what I need to expect before I tear into the dash.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help

And please don't tell me I need to go through ********* lol

Those are a nice idea actually thanks! however, I WILL be using an amp to power to door speakers so my main question was is there anything I need as far as a plug in adapter in order to run my two amps, speakers and sub through the factory unit?

This is the amp for the speakers: http://www.hertzaudiovideo.com/default_en.htm

I went with it because, as it explains, it is has the flexibility to be used with factory units, as well as running the front and the sub in the event that I don't end up putting rear speakers in (its an access cab with the phone receivers in the headliner that Toyota calls "speakers") plus I am using Hertz Hi Energy HSK165's so I want something that has enough power to really make them shine.

So... my number one questions is: What do I need to do in order to run the amped speakers and sub through the factory head unit?

And AW9D, I do appreciate you pointing those speaker wire adapters out to me, makes it real easy to switch back to stock if I go to sell the truck later

Yes, I am using the factory deck/head unit. The ebay listing you put on there apparently does not work for 2012+ head units. I am not sure if it was not the exact one you used as it looks like you are running a 2013 PreRunner as well.

I apologize if I seem to not be 100% grasping this guys, I have been lead down the wrong path before with my old Forester so I am wanting to do this right the first time and have my ducks in a row before pulling the truck in the garage.

This was a reply to someone who tried to give me info but now it has been deleted... its here to reiterate that yes, I WILL BE RETAINING MY FACTORY DECK AND ADDING AMP, SPEAKERS AND SUB TO IT

sorry that was me. I don't want to burn anyone that is why I deleted my post. I went a different route when I built the harness. but I think the harness is the same for all except jbl units (i might be wrong hopefully someone with expertise can chime in).
this is the only hard part.

all you would need is a signal converter like lc2i or lc7i to change it to rca (then the rest is the same as hooking an aftermarket setup)

I have yet to hear from anyone on here that has used a converter and didn't have an audible hiss at lower volumes. I wish I had. I'm just going to replace the HU even though I didn't want to. Seems a waste to hook an expensive set of amps and speakers to be converted.

I thought I was losing my mind at first haha. I was hoping someone would just say, "Hey Dumbfuck, here is a thread that already goes over this!" So fingers crossed that may still happen. I thought for some reason that the amp I have has a built in line out converter, that was why I posted the link to what it is. I am a wannabe audiophile, but I have only done one system and it was a full setup in my forester (head unit, unamped speakers and an amped 8" sub) so I am trying to learn more with this setup.
One thing I did come across was someone pointed out that the hiss or buzz will go away if you ground the RCA terminals to the amp or the head unit. I am honestly totally happy with the stock deck cause I don't care to have anything with DVD cause I have a blueray for that with a damn couch and HD TV for when I want to watch a movie.

And could you shed some light as to what exactly you mean by "Seems a waste to hook an expensive set of amps and speakers to be converted."? I'm not quite smelling what you're stepping in

I do appreciate the help guys! If someone could point me to a how-to that goes over amped speakers and sub linked to a 2012+ Non-JBL touchscreen Tacoma that would be huge!!!

I just looked at the link (sorry). I have not heard of this type of amp. but I guess it will work.
you need to find a way to Take the speaker signal from behind the deck, and run it to the amp. then from the amp to run to the speakers( behind the deck) or to the speakers themselves (a lot of wiring)

you would need to create a harness (so you don't cut the stock wiring to bits.) this is where you will need to do research I think the link that I posted about someone making one might help but there was no confimation that it did work.

more digging for you: almost same setup

The only problem is. I would not want for you to cut your harness this was the problem that I ran into

Yeah and I appreciate that. after reading the thread it looks like the guy stopped posting updates as he was doing a little at a time. Still did not go over exactly how he hooked the amp to the deck (adapter of some kind or hardwire) but it does give me a bit of an idea of what is going on. Part of me is considering buying a deck but I am sort of doing this on the DL with my wife thinking I am only putting in "factory upgraded" speakers hehehe.

There has got to be someone on here that has done a similar project that can shed some light. If it comes down to needing to cut into factory wires, then so be it, but only as a last resort.

How about an update on your progress? I just replaced my door speakers and have decided to replace the amp and sub as well.

Ok. Keep us posted. I'm almost to the point of living with a hiss at low volume. Mine is never at low volume anyway. Lol.
