Not since 2013; all gasoline vehicles manufactured since ~2007 have on-board vapor recovery.

Thats the rule of all the gas stations by that company, not just the big rig drivers. Those huge signs with all the writing near the pumps says it.

It's got a cop motor, a 440-cubic-inch plant. It's got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas.
To those who think pumping gas with the engine running is dangerous; how did you come to that conclusion, and what exactly do you think the danger is? Do you think a spark is going to come out of the exhaust and ignite fumes?

I think everyone is programmed to assume a running car is dangerous. I've been waiting for some true data, for days.

I'm gonna continue to fill mine while running. As long as im within a few feet, I can't see an issue. If the lever does not click off and i spill gas, i will take responsibility. It won't be much, i guarantee.

We had a diesel rig filling up one time during winter. He left it fueling and came inside. The tank overflowed and was flowing under the snow and was not noticeable. Once the driver found out he was responsible for the fuel and the clean up. Environmentalist and and hazmat team showed up because so much had leaked into the ground water.

Looks like a new business opportunity to me. Gas stations built inside a low oxygen 230+mph wind tunnel.

All I found was BS on the internet, only items that might be somewhat true:

Catalytic Converter is hot: Its a truck and sits higher so its a lower risk. I don't think the exhaust will spontaneously cool off by the time I start the pump even with the engine off.

Exhaust pipe could throw a spark: The exhaust exits on the passenger side, its just as likely a car pulling up/leaving the next pump could throw a spark. Do you stop pumping every time a car start up or drives by? I don't.

I've done this on a few occasions and never had a CEL. If the CEL light comes on, read the code and clear it with a code reader. Plus the code for the evap should clear itself the next time the vehicle does a self diagnostic test.

Still more sparks occuring when you start the vehicle. Starter motor spinning when the solenoid is energized, all sorts of relays that are coming go life when you turn on the key and all electrical switches create a spark when thrown.

Sorry, I'm not even remotely convinced it's safer to turn off the car before fueling up.

It's seems much safer to leave it running.

Good article. It didn't have the balls to admit one way or the other, though.
