As another member pointed out, Atrac is coming installed on Tacoma 4x4 sr5 nonTRD in canada. Yes, you can check this by going to toyota of canadas website and looking at the specs. I was wondering then if the 2009's are like the FJ and we just need to plug the switch in and then we will have atrac. I know this has been discussed before, but I was wondering if the 2009 have been looked into, because of it being std on all 4x4 trucks in canada...

Toyota advertised this for 2009s as well, but my 09 dc 4x4 does not have ATRAC. I know that a member on another board (maybe this one too) named gtrotter pulled a wire behind his glove box and said that it enabled atrac in his 2009 regular cab in 4lo. I asked him how, and the explaination was a little too vague for me to try. I am very interested in this as well, becase I would like to have power to all wheels when I need it. I am not sure about the ATRAC button enabling it, I think we have the same brake controller so we should have the equiptment for the ATRAC to work. If I can find a cheap button, I will buy it and try. There is one for sale on ebay for 60-70 I think.

Perhaps someone else can help out.

A-Trac only on OR not Sport if I am My 09 4x4 OR AC has it. As it coms from the factory, it will only engage when pressed if you are in 4lo.

I know that the offroads have it, but Toyota canada website says that all 4x4s come with A-Trac (and TRAC as well).

I was under the impression that TRAC was now standard on all models where the A-TRAC was on the OR. (or SPT if your from Canada) I gotta go look at my build I did online when I bought it.

The FJC's with factory locker have the atrac already wired up, they just need the switch for it. I was under the impression that this is not the case for Taco, sadly.

This mod applies to 2009/10 non- ATRAC 4x4 tacomas.

Behind the glove box is a computer module with five white plugs.

The top of the top connector there are 2 yellow wires with black tracers. All tyou have to do is:

    1. Disconnect the Battery
    2. Un-plug the top connector and cut the second wire down.
The second wire is yellow with a thinner tracer than the top wire.
Or put a switch in place of the wire.
    3. Plug the connector back in and reconnect the battery
    4. now you have TRAC in 4lo.

The way it works is it tricks your truck into thinking it is still in 4hi. The 4lo light blinks, however it is in 4lo. If the vehicle does not engage in 4lo the Buzzer will still chime.

all trucks pretty much come prewired, but the 2005-2008 trucks will not have the new wires... like A-Trac or the Aux Switch like the 2009-2011 trucks will have. The yellow plug next to the radio is for the airbag and it is probably in all the trucks.... Toyota Saves money by prewiring stuff.

Atrac is only on the offroad. They have the hydraulic brake booster. That no one else has. The plug is to turn the Passenger airbag off an on. You might have the wires for it, but you won't have the computer programing or the booster.

A-TRAC requires a hydraulic brake booster... only the Off Road TRDs have it... the rest all have a vacuum brake booster.

Isthatahemi (in Canada) had quite a beef with the faulty advertising of A-TRAC listed on his window sticker... but the truck he first got didn't have A-TRAC, even when the sticker said it did!

(hope I got that right Hemi)

I'll let you all guess what happened with the first truck, and how I got the second.......Beyond that, I can't tell.....

It doesn't matter if a wiring harness or lead that may or may not be there for Atrac is included , you do not have the rest of the components .

    End of story .
