In the instructions, "face view". Their terminology for the other side of the plug.

Geez … So the "inside" of the plug is the "face view" huh? Thanks again Muddinfun!

Yep, if you flip it around, you'll see what wires you have on the busines end of the plug that match up with the diagram.

Ok .. I just looked at the E7 plug (face view) and I DO have clutch/cruise wires in the 3 pins below.

So does this mean I have a clutch switch still hidden in my dash?
    • I DO HAVE a blue clutch switch wire going into PIN 21.
    • There is also a WHITE wire with a black stripe for the cruise switch wire plugged into PIN 31
    • There is also a light green cruise light switch wire plugged into PIN 18

I am pretty sure my 2013 base 2wd automatic is not prewired from factory as hoped. I put the new switch in (this one is a Toyota part with toyota harness), cranked her over, started, pressed the "On" switch on the CC stalk to turn it on and no light on dash :( I might try to dig through some literature to see if its just a couple wires or a whole lot. Other oddity, went through the manual and it seems there is not even a fuse for it (even for trucks that have it). That seems odd that its not in with something else (like IG1 or whatever). But thats that. If anyone has more knowledge of the 2013's in base 2wd form I would love to hear it. Spent way to much now for this not to work.

I just did this to my 08 model. I installed the stalk putting the old ground wire in the new number one slot and hooked up my clutch switch. I took it for a ride and nothing happened no light or cruiseing. I haven’t seen a wiring diagram on that link for 08 or older. Double checked all my connections and still nothing

Edit. After looking over the wiring diagrams and everyhing in the file again I believe I may need the harness. There’s nothing in the 1&2 slots on my S8 connector. I’m still worried since there isn’t an 08 wiring diagram with that harness. Should 08 be prewired then? Am I still missing something? The world may never know.......

It seems like the manual ones is where the issues are

My 08 SR5 RC 5 spd had the connections for clutch switch so just stalk, column cover with hole for stalk, brown wire with 2 connections & clutch switch. Installed the parts, connected wiring/switch and never looked back. Lights up on dash just like it came from factory that way.

Side note - hate the "smart cruise" on wife's RAV4....I always just hold button untill it goes in regular cruise mode not using all that radar crap.

Reviving the thread and hoping for some direction to get my cruise working... If this questions belongs elsewhere, let me know.. or if it's been answered and I've just missed it in my research...

I've got an '08 6spd manual access cab...

I'm looking for the pinout diagram/photos for the connections from the ECM to the instrument cluster...

Mine didn't come prewired and after installing the control switch (and connections in the column), I've added the ground and connections from the S8 connector (pins 1&2) to Pin2 of the E7 connector of the ECM on the passenger side glove box. I installed the manual clutch switch and plugged in the connector that was taped up and wired. No dice..

No cruise light on the dash, no cruise while driving....
Next steps ... I believe... are wring up from the ECM to the Instrument cluster...

I just added mine and their wasn't a ground wire to connect the air bag. The four wire plug didn't have any wire in it were the ground for the air bag had been. So I cut the connector from air bag pulled out the ground wire and put it in the new connector and it worked great. It's nice to have the option of Cruise Control.

Would my 2010 RC 5-lug be prewired?

My truck does have a cruise light on the dash (obviously it's never lit up before); This gave me hope that my truck might be prewired...

Has anyone done this on a BASE Taco? I notice even in Rostra's video, their example is on a truck with steering wheel controls. On a Base, it has NOTHING, and I know there are two types of clocksprings sold - with and without cruise control. Some even list them as 'with audio controls,' which I assume is the same as with cruise control.

So would I also have to replace the clockspring to one 'with audio/cruise control?'

I didn’t even know there were different clock springs. Maybe that’s why my stalk never worked. I just assumed it wasn’t prewired. I’ll be looking into that for myself.

edit. I have the base model with a v6 manual. I Installed the clutch switch and stalk a year or so ago with no luck. This could be why

I looked at images on Rockauto. Looking at the pins on the two types, where the connector for the cruise control harness would plug into, you can see that what would be pin 3 is NOT in the connector of the 'non-cruise' clockspring. Looking at the wiring diagrams for the cruise control, pin 3 takes the signal from the cruise switch. I don't know if the aftermarket clocksprings are different - like maybe the factory just uses one clockspring, but from what I am seeing in the Rockauto pics, a new clockspring is necessary even if you don't have/use steering wheel controls?

This brings another question up. These days a problem with the an audio system can cause certain codes. If the clock spring is replaced and the audio control connectors are NOT used, will it throw codes because the ECM is not seeing values it should be seeing, or will it just ignore the unused audio pins because it knows there shouldn't be controls in the steering wheel?

Yeah, that's what I was planning to do if I did this. It seems like the kit has a lot of superfluous wires that wouldn't be needed (plus markup). If you haven't done yours yet, can you snap/post a pick of the receptacle pins in the clockspring?

I do not feel comfortable removing the airbag by myself...

Also, I have a base model RC; Based on what I’ve read I don’t think my truck has anything in terms of “prewiring” aside from the “CRUISE” indicator light on gauge cluster.

Found a decent pic from another thread

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/2nd-gen-clockspring-replacement-how-to.106114/

In this pic, if you look carefully, the part of the clockspring that the connector for the cc switch would go into is missing/doesn't come with some pins, so it LOOKS like on a base you would have to swap the clockspring. Another potential thing that MIGHT be missing is the wiring from the clockspring to the ECM.
