I recently took off a chrome trim piece on my door and am having trouble removing the adhesive residue. I have tried GooGone but it does not seem to be that effective. Any ideas on how I can remove the leftover adhesive?

    -Thanks

Googone works well for me. But for stuff like that you need to let it soak and seep in for full effect. Try to take a rag or paper towel soaked in goo gone and hold it on there for 5 min or so. The oil I'm the goo gone will eventually eat away at the adhesive. Another product that works, but is a little more harsh is orange 90. I've never used on car paint, so use at your own caution

go to your local auto paint store and ask for a 3m rubber wheel, pin stripe remover, etc. Some people refer to them differently.

Mount it to your drill and go for it. It's just a big eraser and will get ALL the sticky stuff right off. I used it when I debadged my tacoma and removed all the emblems and TRD stickers. 5min total, and just wipe off the eraser shavings with a dry microfiber, apply sealant, done...

Believe it or not WD-40 is far and away the best adhesive remover I've ever tried. I've used goo gone and 3M stuff and good ole WD-40 works the best and won't mess up the paint in my experience. Use it for all my debadging. My two cents.

I had taken the clear paint protection film off the hood of the truck and it left a very sticky glue residue on the hood. Nothing touched it. We tried mineral spirits, brake parts cleaner, alcohol, 3M general adhesive remover, turtlewax, everything; yet nothing came close to touching it. I went by a graphics shop and they put me on “Rapid remover” and that stuff works!!! Using that along with a plastic squeegee and it came right off. This is commercial grade stuff and not the dilute store bought stuff. This is the stuff to use for stubborn glue residue. I’ll post before and after pictures.

This^. I've used it to remove decal residue many times with ease (and caution).

I'm curious what it's composition is.

Can you do a finger test?

Place a drop on your finger. Rub your thumb on the drop. Is it slippery and doesn't evaporate fast?

If yes, then this is a caustic cleaner. It has a high pH.

The reason it feels slippery is because it is actually removing your dead skin on your finger tips.

Just rinse your hands good and you will have no issues.

If you don't feel like answering, I'll understand.

Was the residue you had smooth to the touch when you ran your finger over it? I’m having a similar issue after removing a bug deflector. I’ve tried 3M, clay bar, and most recently meguiars ultimate compound.

Some parts were very smooth while others were very rough. Took every bit of it off! Order that rapid adhesive remover in my picture, and get a plastic razor blade squeegee thing from Amazon or wherever. Here’s a link to the plastic razor squeegee on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/FOSHIO-Scrap...c7b-4b93-a8f2-6fe565597248&pd_rd_i=B076BBW1WM

Spray it on the area and leave for about 60 seconds. Then scrape it off. Eventually the layer of glue will get thin enough to just rub it off with a microfiber towel after spraying more product. Will take just a little elbow grease but it cuts it doesn’t take long at all with this stuff!! Just tape up your headlights and rubber at the front of the hood because I hear it can deteriorate it. The adhesive in my picture was completely removed in under an hour and there was a BUNCH of it! Best of luck!!

Pick up some 3M General Adhesive Remover, just don’t get it on textured plastics or headlight lenses.
