Actually a ton, companies offer both open source and closed source. In fact most of the software to date is in some way using open source software.

Companies also develop using Agile, DevOps, and tools like Jira and Github, there is nothing to hide about that.

Ubuntu, Debian are open source Linux distributions...

    Just check out Github

As a bystander with a knowledge of computing - scanners are notoriously unreliable. False positives a-plenty, especially on software that does unique things.

And from a practicality standpoint, there are much less labor intensive ways to distribute malware far more effectively.

In the end though - software aside - it comes down to whether you trust OVTune. Even if his pc software is fully verifyable, you're still trusting the modifications his software makes to your vehicle. That's a much bigger issue in my mind.

Why would someone give up his source code to someone who has no validity and risk his product be stolen. I sure as hell wouldnt.

if you dont trust it then dont run it but dont knock on him when hundreds of us who have ran his program and have not had a single issue.

    Plain and simple

and I have already stated that.

Could just as easily purchase it, reverse engineer it and even ask for a refund.

Yeah plenty of companies say the open source software they use and mat has already stated the software he uses for code protection. Closed source is typically only large companies that send it through private review.

Not sure how the development methodology and version control is relevant to anything.. are you only secure if you use github and agile?

I'm not actually bashing it, if you read the thread I was simply trying to understand his product development. Whats your stake in this?

    Just an example.

Huh weird. It’s almost like thats exactly why he has software protection... to prevent this.

I cannot find a single shred of code from HP Tuners, EcuTek, EFI Live, Uprev, SCT, Diablo, etc on github. Weird. Not Designspark, etc or really any for profit software company.

No, it's not weird. Their software, like mine, has secret intellectual property for certain communication methods with Engine control units over canbus that you don't want ANYONE to know. That's the equivalent of posting the password to your bank on github and hoping nobody logs into your bank.

You are certifiably insane if you think these companies would put that information online just because something thinks there is a virus / trojan / etc in the software.

No one thinks that man and no one is asking you for your source code. Companies do their due diligence in mitigating their vulnerabilities using various tools and processes, patching the product.

But to an earlier point it comes with trust, we trust Microsoft, Adobe and other large internal companies to mitigate those vulnerabilities and risk, many following industry best practices. Do we trust Matt in his home office?

So your problem is OVtune isnt a large enough company for you to trust? I trust mat a hell of a lot more than i trust Microsoft, google and adobe.

I don't have a problem with OVTune, and I don't know the company well enough to trust it..or Matt.

But you know it well enough to say our product is shit.

I don't have anything else to say. We don't want your source code... but we will never know without your source code. Also many companies give their source code.

It actually wasn't until page 4..and we are on page 5 and up until then was a discussion that could build trust. Do you see me commenting in any of the other OVTune threads?

To be frank I considered buying it at one point but no I don't trust you or your company enough to do so at this time.

You guys keep talking in circles. Can we not simply agree to disagree? I'm not sure why everyone is bent over one "random guy on the internet"
