So the whole point of an OV Tuner is to tune the truck as a custom tune? My only knowledge of tunes is in the turbo car world and most of those work as you can buy a device that allows you to switch between preloaded tunes, OR the other route is a full on custom tune by a professional tuner. The whole give the tuning software to the consumer to let them tune it sounds like a nightmare to me. Their website just doesnt communicate super well what the simplest way would be to gain access to their premade tunes.

You might be right, but from what i understood though "example" files are for ATs only?

For MT, I know i couldve bought a tune pack or individual tunes. My VF software came without any "example" tunes. I was only able to edit anything once i had the tune file on my laptop and was able to open it in VF.

Say I bought a tune pack. How am I going to flash the ECU without having to also buy the software? Or is that not a possibility. For Example Subaru's use a cobb access port which has pre made tunes that you can then switch between and re flash the ECU. However with the OVTune are you required to bust out a laptop with a software silence on it as well just to switch.

You have to have the software and taxtrix cable to flash your ECU. Its 379$ US i believe.

Im running Premium SFOB tune which was done by Ov tune, (owner of Vf tuning software) i did not edit anything, its an amazing tune. I might tweak something in the future once i learm more about tuning.

The simplest way is to buy the tune pack. Those are the pre-made tunes that were previously available before the custom tool was available.
My understanding is that example files are for all trucks, as they're essentially the 'tutorial'. You can't buy individual tunes to the best of my knowledge, you may be confusing that with unlocking different calibrations, which isn't the same thing.

I don't know why you didn't receive example tunes, I personally have the older OVtune before vfTune, I just researched it when I was considering upgrading from OVtune to vfTune.

And how exactly did you flash it onto the truck? Just through your laptop with the software and cable provided in that package? Also when we say "tuning" its sounding more like changing programming for shift points, throttle input parameters and that kind of stuff yes? Previously when I head tuning I would picture adjusting boost(non NA applications) timing, fuel supplied at specific rpms and more technical side of things.

I don't think you can buy a tune pack without already having a license for vfTuner.

Thank you, this is what I was getting at. Blows my mind that the software costs 350 or whatever it is and that doesn't also get you the pre made files. In car world with tuners on boosted cars(most common application for consumers flashing ecu day to day) you'd buy your tune device that also comes with the pre made files.

Ok thanks for all the info. Its surprising a company would encourage consumers to edit technical sided stuff that could grenade a motor when not done correctly.

That's how the old OVtune worked, it was north of $700. VfTune + Tune packs is cheaper than old OVtune, and you don't have to buy the pre-made tunes if you just want to do it yourself.

Nope, i bought 2 tunes for my ECU ID from TW member. Base premium and premium SFOB. I had a choice of getting all 8 or individual tunes, i did not need all 8, so i got 2. Or i could ve bought the tune pack online, i just wanted save some money since im paying in CAN$.

My vf tuning software was blank when i opened it. As soon as i opened the tune file in my Vf, then all the editing showed up.

These guys made it to benefit the people who don't want to use their tunes but custom tune instead. Seems odd to me but not my product. In theory if you wanted to just use a tune pre made from them, put it on and leave it. You could walk up to someone whose already payed for the ovtune software and tune pack and have them do it for you?

That is explicitly allowed by ovtune. Yes.

Im using the premade tune and i love it. Have one more to try later on.

Yes, i can flash anyone. I just need to have the tune file with your ECU ID. TW members offer these services for about 225$ i believe.

Tune File with ECU ID? So I would have to buy the Tune pack still, but not the software. The following would not work: Joe buys the software and a tune kit, joe puts a tune on his truck. Jeff wants a tune as well so joe plugs into his truck and re-flashes Jeff's truck without Jeff paying anything.
Sorry trying to re learn tuning in terms of these trucks and OVtunes website damn near gave me a headache trying to navigate and read up on it.

Your Jeff and Joe example would work as long as they either both have the same ECU id(this is like the software version from the factory, not an ID unique to each truck), or joe unlocked both his ID and Jeff's ID.

Again thank you, this is more of a chore than studying for this weeks finals. So how would I easily figure out the ECU ID? Or how difficult is it for someone to "unlock" an ID? I am not going to try and buy the whole $700 from the site. Will try to pay someone on here to set me up with one of the pre made tunes.
