Looking for some advice and tips for staying in San diego? My family and I are going to a concert in mid September in Chula Vista at the Amphitheater there. I have heard the surrounding area is pretty ghetto and not much night life??

I was hoping to stay not to far a drive from the venue. I found a best Western plus a couple miles from the venue but i just don't know what the surrounding area is like?. I know traffic leaving the venue will probably be hectic and don't want to sit in traffic for hours if possible. Any body have any nice hotels they can recommend or areas I should take a look at that would be close and entertaining after our concert? Thanks for any insight and advice, it's appreciated!!! :hattip:

I stay at the Best Western in Old Town. Walking distance to bomb food and huge margaritas as well as shopping . The hotel is noy a typical Best Western. It's got a Spanish village vibe.

You mentioned you going with family so yeah, I would say Old Town. It's not super close from Chula but it's a place family can have fun.

Yeah what Greg said. You guys would have more fun staying near downtown and old town and just drive to chula vista for the concert. Uber. Lyft. Whateva. Old town is the shit.

Every city has its "people say this area is ghetto," but until you've been there and done that don't listen to everybody. There's a lot of cool stuff to see around SD and you can't see it all in 1 or 2 days (it normally takes about 4 years). Obviously you can't go wrong with Old Town and Downtown, but that's the same everywhere you go basically. Go out explore places and try restaurants that might be a little more "ghetto" to find the best food without getting raped on the price. I think you will see a lot more culture in the ghetto parts of SD and doubt you will be bothered unless you're shouting derogatory words to a specific race.
