Advice on 2007 RUNNER

    Biggest thing on those 4runners is Xreas (diagonal reservoir sharing shocks) are very expensive to replace and have to be replaced in sets of 2. You can also change them to a standard shock if desired. They leak and rust badly over time.

    Next the V8 has issues with the exhaust manifolds leaking on cold start, it's not a huge deal, but when it gets loud all the time it's expensive to replace the manifolds as they are catalytic converters.

    Beyond that, they are timing belt engines so the seller should provide some sort of history with it.

    Other common maintenance items I see on 4th gens are...

    -CV Axle boots/shafts, they leak on many of them after 100k, easy to spot, check axles with flash light.
    -Steering racks, they leak into the inner rod boot and eventually cause the inner to fail, they are not simple to replace, easy to check, turn the steering all the way one way and the boot will appear wet if failing.
    -Front sway bar bushings, they clunk like crazy once worn on 4runners, mainly going over small bumps and into parking lots.
    -Interior lights, cheap one, but just check to see how many are out, many many 4runners run blind at night.


    Great trucks though! I would love a V8 model but I found them to be too tight for my liking as I am a tall bugger.

    Appreciate the info! Apparently it was a company car and was service regularly. I'll check all the things you mention regardless.

    Here is the interior pic from the owner. Also she states, "It was a company vehicle bought for me, when I retired I purchased it. It was serviced through enterprise when it was new and also through me." Must have worked for Enterprise or something....what do you all think? Worth a look/test drive?

    I test drove a 2007 a year or so ago. The brake accumulator seemed like it was always going on. It can be a sign of going bad if they are always pressurizing. The one I drove was going on every 30 seconds. You'll feel brake pedal vibrate a little and can even hear the accumulator if you listen for it.

    Only complaint I've seen about the V8 is that air injection pump can go bad. It's located under the intake manifold so it takes some work to replace. It's also like a $500 part.

    12-15 V6 Tacoma's have them too but it's located in the engine compartment.

    Thanks again for the feedback. Maybe ill check it out after awhile, maybe i can negotiate it down to 8K or so. Paying cash has it's perks.

    Welcome. The V8 is a solid motor as well as the V6. A co-worker also have a 2007 V-8 with over 225K on it. No issues with a air injector pump or brake accumulator.
