I just test drove a 1999 Taco with these specs:
1999 Toyota Tacoma with 81K miles. , 4x4, V-6, Automatic, Excellent condition, Topper with slider and light, Rear sliding window, TRD package (I removed the decals...), SR5, and Trailer hitch.
Amazing truck with great tires. Asking 10,000k.

The truck drove pretty well, but there were a few issues that I was hoping to get advice on. First the trucks check engine light is on and the guy told us it needs to have the idle air control valve (iac valve) replaced. Does anyone know how much an ICA costs to fix and also if people think we might be ok just cleaning it.

Second question: When we drove it we tested out 4 low and had a question come up. When we give it gas there was kind of a lag in power at first, the engine would kind of rev up the rpm's a bit without putting much power to the wheels then all of a sudden the wheels would get more power and the truck would kind of jerk forward. This only occurred from a stopped position. We aren't sure if this problem would be related to the bad IAC valve.

Lastly, the window needs to be replaced...How should I expect this to cost?

I'm not sure on the window part, The Air Idle Control Valve cost about 300 bucks. and what window needs to be replaced?

For the mileage, I'd say it's a pretty good deal...IF there was nothing wrong with it. I just bought my '99 2.7l, extended cab, manual with 136k miles for $8,000. It had a m8000 warn winch, allpro front, and badlands back bumper, mud terrains, and other various mods. It was slightly rusty, but frame and crucial components were good. The check engine light was on, but we brought it to autozone, and it coded an exhaust leak (I'm going to get headers/maybe cat-back anyways).

I make it a general rule to not buy a truck with a need for major mechanical work done. Especially if the IAC, is quoted by WhatThePho? to be $300...pretty pricey for a valve.

I'd talk him down to 9 grand.

    Just my 2 cents.

The front window needs to be replaced at some point, their is pretty good cracks in it.

It had locking rear diff. We didn't try the locking rear diff button though. If we end up buying it we will take it to our mechanic for a look. Plus it has nice skid plates under the engine, which I think is part of the TRD package.
