I have color matched flares (BSP). I've got new matte/satin rims to put on and wanted to tie the rim finish in with parts of my truck. My question is should I just satin black paint the flares or use the Rustoleum rattle can bedliner? Also want to do the bumper and grille/surround. I like the "rough" finish of the bedliner stuff but afraid bug splatter will be a "B" to get off.

But if I DON'T change my mind, from what I have read this stuff is NOT very durable and I will be having to re-spray.

I'm not sure what you have read or heard.
My plastidip rear bumper and wheels has lasted 3yrs and counting.
I painted my door sill plastic with bedliner from a can or rustoleum spraypaint and have already touched them up.

WOW! Really? Most of what I have read about the durability has been pretty negative. Again, I guess prep is key.

    Not much prep required.
Lots and lots of coats help.
Also using plastidip glossifier for uv and scratch protection.

Spraying Plastidip absolutely sucks on parts that get touched. Like for example you would not want to dip your steering wheel..it most likely would peel within a week.
    (Spraypaint probably wouldn't last either)
But on exterior pieces that don't get scratched to hell plastidip stands up great!
(Not that spray paint can take abuse and scratches either)
Regular spraypaint requires lots of prep and if it gets rock chips...it would take massive sanding or bondo...Especially to go back to a smooth spraypaint finish.

I used color matched spray paint on my lower valence and it has held up a few years without any major flaws.
If I went black I would have used plastidip there too.

Would a clear matte PD topcoat help protect and aid in cleaning (i.e. bugs, red mud, etc.)?

Yes. Also dipcoat spray (from dipyourcar.com) helps reduce the rubbery feel and makes surface slick.
    It is like a quickwax.
You can also just use quick wax for almost same result.

That's good to know but I was looking for something more permanent. I really don't want to have to reapply this stuff every week or two.

    Really  ....come on now...
I am not sure how many of us that have actually used plastidip have to Reapply it Every week or two!!...o_O:rofl:

Like I said in post #4
Sounds like you should just do some online research on spraypaint cans and durability and plastidip durability then make an informed decision.
It's your truck do what you feel is best.

:facepalm:I wasn't referring to the PD. I was referring to the sealant/wax stuff.

The bedliner cleans up just fine. I did the grill flares and bumpers on both my old first gen and my current truck. Prep is key, use adhesion promoter on the plastic parts. I've never used the rustoleam Bedliner so I can't speak for that. I used raptor liner

Nah. I just think it's a quality product with lots of interesting applications that many folks around here seem to be unaware of.

When my truck bumper gets lousy looking it will be what I use on them. And maybe even my rockers if they get beat up enough over the coming years.

I like the texture much better than any other product out there. And having some color options is nice.
