    Good morning fellow Tacomians,

I come to this forum of expertise to solicit any comments and advice on the functionality of the Toyota[IMG] OEM Roof Racks (Part # PT278-35050)available for the Double Cab? My desire is to install a set with the end goal of mounting a 2 foot CB antenna on the back cross member of the rack.

    My questions are:

    1. How do the cross members lock into place?

    2. When the cross members (specifically the rear one) are locked into place will they support a CB mount and antenna securely in place?

As an alternative, I was thinking about installing the roof rack and adding a cargo carrier rack and then securing the CB antenna to the rear of the cargo rack.

If needed I have a detailed jpeg that I can send to you for review. If needed please email me at huevo_movil@yahoo.com. Thats huevo (underscore) movil at yahoo.com.

Any first hand opinions and/or comments are welcomed?

Shorty, the crossbars lock into place via a male post that fits into a female opening on the opposite side. There is a cam lever on top which operates a locking mechanism on the male post. My thought is that when secured in place, the rear bar would support the CB Anntenna.....If a pic of the lock would be helpful I will take one and post it.

    squad314,

Thanks for the note. Just as I was leaving Lowes a few mins ago, a Toyota pulled in and we started taking about has roof rack. Your description matches the functionality to a T. You must be a technical writer? After getting an eyes on the rack I also agree that it would hold the antenna and a pioneer tool rack that I am having painted in black.

Again thanks for the feedback and the assistance. Once I "get er done" I'll post some pics.

    Shorty sends...

I'll love to see pics when you get it done. I love the idea though.

I have the roof rack but have yet to install it. I'm waiting for better weather. The rack looks very well made and pretty solid. I can't wait to put it on my truck
