    Hey OP,

I usually rattle can/brush on eastwood rust encapsulator on my frame each fall. This year I decided to also spray some fluid film on a week later. Ordered a couple cans on Amazon just to try the product out.

This stuff looks like it works. I drove in rain yesterday and looked at my frame, I could tell the fluid film was staying on my frame and keeping the water off. Only problem is there is no way I can do that thorough of a job with aerosol cans. Definitely recommend spending a couple hundred bucks and having a professional spray everything with a gun. I am going that route now.

why spend a couple hundo on another person? buy a kit, with a gallon, and you can do all of your vehicles personally, and only have to buy ff or WW when you run out. i bought the gallon kit, and the long thin small hose kit for the spray cans. i buy 3-4 spray cans every other year, and a gallon every other year. in a few weeks, i will be spraying my 17 gmc for the 4th time, and the tacoma for the second time. i have less than 300 TOTAL, invested for all hardware, and materials to date.

I don't get why people still use FluidFilm when WoolWax is the same thing only doesn't stink like wet sheep for weeks.

I just did my Tacoma, my buddy's Tacoma and my 97 Land Cruiser yesterday. Using the pro gun and a compressor makes short work of the job.

I believe they are both owned by the same company.

They are not. The people that make woolwax were a distributor for fluid film and decided to go out and make woolwax. I use both.

fluid film has refined petroleum in it for all the know-it-alls. it is not strictly lanolin and the cans are vague about totality of ingredients. i could be wrong but i'm not. :)

when you wipe the side of your nose and sniff it, that is like the sebum you are spraying on your truck, except from a cute critter. rock on my brethren!

Fluid film. Another reason i went with cosmoline, it doesn't attract all the crud the fluid film did from the dirt road i live off. Very happy with cosmoline so far...be even way happier next year if i don't have to do this again.

Just got done Fluid Filming my 2013. I have sprayed it every year since I`ve owned it. Drive up on Rhino ramps, throw down a tarp, and crawl under. I use a metal brush to take off any crud flakes( only 2 little ones this year), sprayed with aerosol , and brushed it in everywhere that was possible with an old paint brush. my frame looks very good. Of course, I only have 33000 miles on it so I`m sure the low miles helps. The odor doesn`t bother me but I did break my nose a few years ago and the sniffer isn`t as sensitive as it was. Took out my carpet floormats and reinstalled my Weathertechs. Also took off the center caps from my steelies as the clips holding them on were toast. During the winter I go through a carwash that sprays underneath. For me the stuff doesn`t wash off that easily. I am retired and if the weather is crap I just stay home.

i have no idea but im sure someone has chimed in from FF people at some point to clarify (or not). that OSHA pdf says its 80% weight petroleum, i could be wrong again. anyone who knows cosmetic industry knows there is no way they can be selling pure lanolin for 10 bucks a pound the stuff is cra expensive. it smells divine like expensive macys hand lotion.

that being said it works great. dont forget to pull those rubber plugs all over the bottom of frame and spray up in there. and under the hood and behind the rockers and up inside the bed panels (pull off plastic light covers, etc). leaf springs, transaxle, inside hitch, hinges. go look at a crusty old truck for reference. also any welds or stress pts coat it all nice. if you really do a thorough job and get all nuts and behind panels and hidden areas, i think 7-8 cans will get you there, and that accounts for overspray and a liberal hose down followed by wipe. just do it out on street in some shitty clothes. sheep bukake.

So, with the weather in the mid 60’s here in Vermont I finally got around to undercoating our vehicles. Thanks again for all the advice and tips, that is a messy job (at least how I did it) and the tyvek suit for $11 was worth every penny. Took me around 1 hour per vehicle and I feel as though i did a pretty good job. The wool wax is a thick bucket is slop but the pro gun and new 20 liter HF compressor made easy work of it. I think it still has a bit of a unique smell but doesn’t sound nearly as bad as the FF. I’ll keep and eye on it this winter and try and do it a bit earlier next fall. Thanks again.

I haven't done much on my SUV for 9 years in IL and it's not terrible, but definitely not rust free. I sprayed it with CorrosionX and that seems to be helping. Looks like the rust stopped and also improved. Still has a wet appearance after a car wash. This winter I sprayed most of the frame with the CorrosionX HD version which is a lot thicker. TBD results but I have high hopes since it's a good thick film. The marketing claims the film will self heal from stuff hitting it. For 3 cans at about $20 a can it seemed worth trying.

Back when Kellsport sold Fluid Film, I got their kit with the Pro spraygun and the 24" 360° wand. You're looking at just over $100 for that. My air tool setup that runs it was less than $350 from HF and has done my trucks for 7 years now. Plus, then you get the added bonus of having air tools, which come in SUPER handy when you tell yourself you won't lift you truck, then you lift your truck, then you get a new truck and you tell yourself I'm definitely not lifting this one, and you do it anyways.

Also should add on the topic of Fluid Film VS Woolwax. They smell almost exactly the same and I wouldnt call it a bad smell. The color and consistency is almost the same, although the woolwax definitely was a little more viscous and poured into the applicator jugs much easier. The fluid film seemed thicker and kind of "glugged" into the spay gun jugs a bit. The fluid film was a little tricker to get the 360deg spray nozzle working right, i think its because it was thicker. We did use a bucket of hot water to rest the application jugs and warm them up before spraying. I can see how Fluid Film would be easier to spray the hotter it was, Woolwax wasnt as picky. We also noticed the fluid film atomized better when spraying it, which resulted in a much finer mist. Which seems contradictory to the thicker consistency, but it definitely was mistier when spraying. Overall, I think both products are practically the same and looks like they are going to do a great job. Next year when we do our touchups, I think we are going to go with the black colored Woolwax.

now that its been a few days, the clear/yellow color of the woolwax has toned down a little, more towards clear. The fluid film has turned very clear and looks like a slick gloss was applied to everything.
