I'll start off by saying that I know a bunch of you consider cold air intake mods a waste of money so save your comments. :crapstorm:I just installed one by aFe Power and I'm very impressed with the results. Sounds great and there is a noticeable difference in throttle response. :yes:The one I got has the dry filter so no issue with messing up the mass air sensor with oil either. It made me love my Taco even more!:taco:

They are not a waste of money if you want a different sound. If you want additional performance, they are a waste of money. Pretty sure that, after spending millions in R&D for the development of this engine, Toyota knows a $5 air cleaner don't help in power or efficiency. I'm also sure that, even if your engine was somehow getting "more" air, the ECU will just simply adjust the ratio back to proper levels.

Have fun with the sound, and if you believe there is a difference in throttle response, good for you. Just don't expect anyone else to believe it.

Okay, Guess you just couldn't resist or missed my first sentence. Your are entitled to your opinion but that's all it is, your opinion. I installed the unit and there is a distinct difference in performance. Take the time to go to the aFe Power web site and look at the dyno test results.

Believe what you want, including dyno results from the guys selling the product lol. Seriously, why wouldn't Toyota use it if it increased any performance metric? Or any manufacturer?

I design things for a living. Any OEM would love to get even a 0.01% performance gain for not much money. CAI's give you a sound and that's fine. Nothing else.

some people buy it simply for the added sound. i have a MT and use the sound to help guide my shifting, and it helps more than the stock sound level. some of you should just stfu with your 30 year old stale opinions... nobody asked or cares.

did you seal the rubber plug on the front? mine was very loose fitting and the first time I drove it and mashed the gas that thing grenaded right out and down the road. Had to really seal that thing in there because its stupid loud without it in.

I went to check the website and it says:

    DETAILS:
    • +17 HP / +19 lbs. x ft. Torque max gains
    • Outflows factory intake by up to 39%
    What the shit?!

17 hp with an air intake?

    I would honesty believe 1.7/1.9.

For 17 I want to see it in a dyno.

I also installed the a.F.e. CAI and when I ordered they offered the front mounted intake at no cost. First mod I did to my truck and to be honest, I'm happy enough with the increased sound of the engine at 4K revs. Extra power? Can't tell because I've added a topper, RTT, etc right away. But as the OP can attest, it does sound like a monster when you punch that pedal.

I'm planning on getting this exact same one! There is an attachment to this that takes in air from above the radiator, but I'm going to forego that for now. Any plans on picking that up as well?
