Well.... NUMBERS... after I Installed my AFE Pro Dry S drop in filter these are the results:

    NON-TOWING (verified with Scangauge II)
better at highway speeds (from 65MPH to 70MPH)
WIND Speed is an important variable. (It does really affect performance).
SETUP: DC, 4X4, LB, 17" tires (OEM -35 PSI-), 5 persons (530 pounds) and 530 pounds of weight on bed.

    BEFORE / AFTER
    MPG 18.6 MPG @ 65-68 MPH / 22.4 MPG @ 70MPH
    RPM 2000 RPM @ 66 MPH / 2000 RPM @ 70MPH

After 70 MPH you began to get a steady performance or a small lost on MPH or an increase of RPM.
Winds of 25-35MPH decreases performance almost 3 MPG @ 70 MPH and increases RMP to keep 70MPH up to 2350-2450RPM.

Not good aerodynamic, even with a LEER CAP.

TOWING -folding trailer, Fleetwood E3- (verified with Scangauge II)
better at highway speeds (from 60MPH to 65MPH)
WIND Speed an important variable. (It does affect performance).
SETUP: 08 TRD Sport, Tow Pckg, Four Doors, 4 wheel drive, Long bed, 17" tires (OEM -35 PSI-), 5 persons (530 pounds) and 530 pounds of weight on bed.

    BEFORE / AFTER
    MPG 12.8 MPG @ 60-65 MPH / 14.3 MPG @ 70MPH
    RPM 2500 RPM @ 65 MPH / 2100 RPM @ 70MPH

After 62-65 MPH you began to get a steady performance or lost on MPH or an increase of RPM.
Winds of 25-35MPH decrease almost 5 MPG @ 65 MPH and increases
RPM to keep 70MPH up to 2500-2800RPM.
On 15 to 25 grades going up, there is no way to use D 4th is the only gear to get it up and is normal a 50MPH speed @ 2000-2250 RPM
Total aprox weight on RV is 3,000 pounds. Everything loaded (except water in their tanks).
RV tires are 15" at 50 PSI.
DAMN! I need the TSB on my '08, it has been reduced almost 2" in the back when towing and there is around 450 pounds tongue weight.

Not good aerodynamic, even with a LEER CAP.

    END POINT... AFE is GREAT!

Price wise! go for the drop in... the whole intake system will be great (but more $$$) and as more air get into the motor that same amount has to go out... means that if you want the 100% of performance for an intake system you will need to think in a performance exhaust system that will help you out.

has the group buy already happened? Also just for my own knowledge...is this filter just a replacement of the old? not sure exactly what the drop-in filter is?

This is a replacement for the OEM, it will fit where the stock is. Is not part or whole of an air intake system. But it will perform almost like it. It is cheaper and for the price is the best option.

dougmays yes the group buy has already happened. I don't know if it is still going on or not. Not sure if there was a time frame or not. Contact Mceagle, he is the man.
