On December 2004, my wife got me a 2005 (1st year 2nd Gen) SR-5 Pre Runner Tacoma, while I was still in Iraq, as a homecoming surprise. I drove it from 2005-2011 in Puerto Rico, stored it during my 2nd deployment to Iraq, returned and then shipped it to Pennsylvania and drove it all around the northeast from 2011-2014, then drove it to California (I-80) and drove it all over the west coast for 7 years (2014-2021), then drove it to GA where I am about to retire with over 30 years of Army service!
It's been a great truck. No major issues. The driveshaft was replaced under warranty, the rear suspension was replaced (a National Recall due to rust), new front wheel bearings and a new A/C fan. That's it! It runs, shines and feels like the first day. With 173,000 miles, it has no leaks anywhere, it looks great, and I got it sold the same day I put it up for sale! It is going to a great home with new owners that appreciate the brand, heritage and quality of a Toyota truck.

With the sale $ we will put the down payment for a 2022 TRD Sport Double Cab in MGM! I reserved it 2 weeks ago and will arrive this Saturday. So I'll be hanging around the 3rd Gen. Forum. A great retirement gift!

What a story and what a truck. Congrats on your new ride and may it also serve you well.

Another lost to the dark side. One day I may upgrade to a newer Taco... But only if I find a 2.5 gen front end to give that 3rd (probably 4th) a facelift

I would say "in all seriousness", but I was being serious- congrats and condolences. It's always bittersweet to part with a vehicle you've been through so much with. Glad you found a buyer you trust to appreciate the details and to take care of her.

Be sure to follow up this post with some pics of the MGM! Good color choice.

Now that's the kind of story I like to hear. Sounds like you had an epic career in the Army and you have a badass for a wife! You should probably keep her.

Congrats on the new truck from a fellow owner of a 2005. I just can't seem to let mine go. She has become part of the family now lol.

I think you'll regret selling it as soon as it's gone. Sentimental value is priceless, and the memories associated with that truck. ie your wife, will make loosing that truck very regretful.

    Thank you for your service:oldglory:

Thank you for your service good sir. Just FYI if you do get a TRD sport change out the shocks. The sport shocks ride like crap. Get the TRD off road shocks or Eibach Pro shocks (not the sport). They give a much better ride quality.

Thank you for the advise. At my age I don't need more backpain. I barely go off-roading at all (shame on me!). My 2-Gen is a road princess. But I want a confortable ride on the new truck.
    Are those the: E60-82-007-02-01 ?

Great story! Thank you for your service and congrats on your retirement of over 30+ years. (E9 is the only grade one can serve up to/over 30 years [at least in the USAF])

As for the TRD Sport, nice choice! I've been enjoying my Sport since May/2021 and have done some upgrade/improvements. I don't rock crawl or really go off-roading much but it's nice to know I can do when the day presents itself.

I know you'll post pics when the day arrives for you to bring the Sport home.

Thank you for you service! Ignore the negative comments of 2nd Gen to 3rd Gen.
    I was 8 years in a 2nd Gen before I got my 2020 Army Green 3rd Gen.
I loved my 2nd Gen, good truck. But I've never regretted trading it for a minute.

It's bad enough to see a pic of that beautiful truck that looks as good or better as my truck that's half the age.... Then you have to pile it on with a picture of the '67 Coupe with what looks like the optional rear back panel grille between the tail lights? rare-rare-RARE: (x) infinity... ...and the vinyl roof.... does it have the 390 too? (I don't wanna know) Then the 4Runner. oh wait! Here's a pic of the bike. Jeeze-Louise... It's just not right... ;)

All kidding aside: Thank you for your 30 years of service and sacrifice! You deserve all of those toys
