Just purchased a set of four 16" ATX Mojave Teflon rims and realized that because of the different backspacing if I get a flat and put on my spare rim on, it will not sit in line with the other wheels.

Probably a stupid question, but do most people then just buy 5 aftermarket wheels so they have identical spare, or is it fine to run a spare with incorrect backspacing for a couple of days until I fix or find replacement for the damaged tire?

All five will be identical sized tire, just different spec spare rim.

What size tires? If you aren't going up to 285's then the stock spare rim will be fine for the new tire you put on it.

265/75/16, all 5 tires will be the same size. ATX rims are 4.5bs and stock steelie is I assume 5.5bs. Does it not matter to have 3 wheels 4.5bs and a spare with 5.5?

Nope. affects nothing but looks, because both are within the range of backspacing that works without rubbing for a 265/75/16. Especially since the spare would only be on temporarily.

Just to confirm. Does a 2004 Tacoma steel rim fit a second gen? I have been offered one as a spare. After this I would have a complete second set of wheels and would be done with wheels for good. :D Thanks.

i wouldn't worry about the backspacing. I'd only be worried if you had big tires and the regular sized spare because then you could mess up your diff. I just picked up a full size spare for this same reason

No, I have a full set of four 17" TRD Sport wheels and a 17" steel spare with 265/65/17 Bridgestone Blizzak tires for winter and just purchased a set of 4 American Racing Mojave Teflon 16" wheels with 265/75/16 Yokohama Geolander AT/S tires for summer to complete my two sets of wheels. So as of now I'm still missing a 16" spare for summer. I was looking for a second gen factory spare, but was offered a 2004 steel rim so just wanted to double check that it will fit my second gen.

So yeah I will be running same sized tire (265/75/16) on same sized steel spare rim (16").

Where are you located? I have a 16" stock spare from my 2010 tacoma that I would part with cheaply..just upgraded to 17" TRD Sport rims and was able to locate a 17" TRD rim and used tire locally as a spare.
