:notsure: Guess we have different definitions of "use". I use mine my banging into and sliding over rocks regularly. My friend that joins every now again cracked his aluminum skid on some milder stuff that I do.

Got Mobtown steel skids. 135 lbs for the whole set but the truck doesn't feel the weight difference. Haven't tested them yet but they're there if I need them.

The sale can cover shipping, and then some! They ship stuff for relatively cheap

    All good points.

To put it in perspective, I have factory "skid plates" right now, so yeah.. Im used to driving that way haha. And I live in New England, so tbh big rocks arent a huge concern most of the time compared to some of you guys out west

Clean truck! And yeah, I know the weight of full steel isnt too much, but still. Half of 135 is a good amount of cargo, water, extra gas etc etc that could be handy on a long haul trip..

Reinforced 3/16" like mobtown would be a good middle ground. Both my front two skids are reinforced and I still have sizable dents in them and my middle skid is bowed up a little bit. Without reinforcements it'd be a bad day.

Ok. I apologize for bringing up this thread, but I've got a couple questions. I have a Relentless aluminium front skid that came with my truck. As it's a 4 banger with a lift and bigger tires it's already stressed. I want to add an aluminium transmission and transfer case skid. I looked on the Relentless web site and didn't see those skids available. Outside of custom made locally, do I have any options that will bolt up to my current skid plate? Also some of the sites I visited specifically exclude regular cabs. I'm afraid if I have to go local I'm going to pay big bucks as I'm not sporting a 3rd gen DC.

I have a 1st Generation, 2001 Tacoma. Looking for a new skid plate options.
Looks like there is many options for aftermarket skid plates in 2nd generation Tacomas.

I want to do research and create thread for 1st generation skid plates.

this looks like a good option:

from RCI, replaces upper and lower skidplate and is less than $300

Any other suggestions? would love to hear about options for 1st gen

Great thread. Definitely leaning towards RCI. Their stuff looks awesome. Just a little torn on steel VS Alu....Ergh

    ARB doesn't make the list?

I saw some Cons due to thickness, but any Pros or more info (maybe more Cons) other then the lack of thickness with the ARB depends on your "use"?

I was curious about the ARB too. I know people aren't happy with the thickness, but if I can at all help it I plan to never hit my skid plates. I want them for insurance, like a rock or stump in tall grass.

Now that Pelfrey is gone, who makes a skid that covers the alignment cams? I don’t do much more than dirt roads, so I’m leaning towards aluminum when the time comes. It looks like the mob town might offer a little bit of protection for them, but it’s hard telling.

My stock sheet metal shield has a couple dings, but is mostly in tact, so I don’t have any fear of aluminum.

Mobtown certainly does. This pic is pretty dead on, and you can't really see them. I've hit the heck out of my IFS skid and never once touched that area of the LCA.

Also mobtown is currently running a 10% off sale.

SOS concepts covers the cam bolts pretty well, best pic I can manage. If you check out his vendor forum there are discount codes floating around. Where are you located? Shipping would probably be one of the most important factors since there are so many offerings that are all basically the same (with minor tweaks). Eddie is in Laurens, SC

Did you install a bare steel skid and plan on spraying it with bedliner on the truck?
