I've had 5 shops/dealers try to get my TPMS synced to the stupid truck with no luck. I finally had the error scanned today (see pics). When I contacted Custom Offsets (CustomOffsets.com) they told me they "have better results with their sensors compared to Toyotas OEM, and that OEM sometimes isn't made for the thickness of some aftermarket wheels to give a strong enough signal." They also said "All Toyotas are finicky about syncing with any aftermarket sensor" which I'm gonna call bullshit on, and they conveniently failed to mention this when they were eagerly selling me the wheel/tire package. Instead I was told "The TPMS work wirelessly and we are up to speed with the latest vehicle TPMS systems." Yeah, obviously. I've long since sold my stocks with the TPMS in them, so now I'll be out the cost of a breakdown/remount and a new set of OEM sensors - with only the hope that it'll work.

Anyone else had problems with aftermarket sensors? Anyone had problems with Custom Offsets sensors specifically? Anyone found a way around the errors I'm getting?

Don't you have to wipe clean the original id numbers first?

I have no idea. I would assume the dealers and the tire shops know this, and yet all have failed to get these to work. Hence why I'm here.

I'm pretty sure you have to clear the old ones first then manually add the new ids. Somebody here should be able to clarify.

When I switched my 2nd gen TPMS sensors out Firestone hooked up to Truck and sensors were matched. Now I did put Denso's in for Alloy wheels.
    Good luck

So I should buy Densos? Is that what the OEM is?

FWIW, I didn’t pay a penny to have TPMS removed from wheels and replaced with rubber valve stems. I don’t believe the tire has to be dismounted, therefore - no charge.

If you’re getting charged for that swap, I might question the validity of it.

    I use America’s/Discount Tire.

How can they switch the TPMS without getting the tire off??

Also...Discount won't mount my tires. They are scared of the 12 wides. They were just nice enough to do the scan for me and show the error codes.

    I’m not a tire monkey.

Removing the tire and breaking the bead are different. Bead breaking is free, removal is not.

I don’t think they need to completely remove the tire from the wheel to install TPMS or valve stems, is my point.

Ask a shop if you want more specificity than that.

I wouldn't buy anything just yet. Has anyone hooked the cable up to computer yet.

Ok that makes sense, I thought you mean they could do it without. I'll try that first and see if I can save some bucks. Since Discount won't touch em, 4WP it is.

I believe that's what they did earlier with that scanner...no? Something diff? I'm TPMS retarded. I can tell when a tire is low just fine without it, I just hate seeing yellow lights on a new truck.

Ok just looked at custome offsets sight. saw nothing about sensors. Next question what name brand did they put in and model #. By hooking up is they should wipe old out which is to replace then put cable to the comp. and enter into comp. And if its cold might take a few days to set. Are you in WI?

If I was in Wisconsin I'd be beating down CustomOffsets door right now. I'm down in Austin, TX - where it's still a bit cold right now we just have different accents.

Another fun thing is, since I ordered my 5th wheel after my set, it has a different TPMS than the other 4. Not sure if that affects it but...yay for added variables.

The invoice doesn't say what kind they are. I'll see if they know.

Did you just yank the bulb? I think that would be a lot easier for me if it wasn't a new truck.

OEM sensors are made by Pacific Industrial. I've only seen a couple of people on these forums say that they got aftermarket sensors to work and no one has provided specific info on what they used. Picture is an OEM sensor. 107C953 is the ID number of this particular sensor.IMG_0397.jpg
