Back last summer, about a month after I bought it used, the windshield got a small chip. Annoyingly, it was pretty much in front of me.

I called my insurance and they connected me to the company that handles glass claims. There is no deductible in MA for glass claims. Anyway, Safelite handles glass although I don't have to use them if I don't want to.

I've never had a problem with them, so I said go ahead and fix it. Tech came out and did a spot repair. Cool, I thought. No need to replace the windshield.

Silly me. 48 hours after the repair, it failed. So, I ended up with a nice new windshield on my year old Tacoma.

Safelite did a nice job with no leaks or problems.

Which brings us to yesterday. Driving up the highway behind a trailer with a container on it I caught something out of the corner of my eye followed by a "CRACK". Sure enough, there was a chip in the glass. At least it's on the passenger side.

I called the insurance company today and Safelite is supposed to send a tech out tomorrow (if it doesn't rain) to do a chip repair.

Hopefully that will hold this time.

I swear these new windshields are as fragile as a soap bubble.

What we really need is optically correct Transparent Aluminum.

Missing My Last Tacoma --- Had 11 Toyota trucks in the past and many other Toyota cars too.
Chips are common on these newer windshields ... I have had the same problem on Hondas & Toyotas.

Where in MA are you? I got a zinger right in my view . Safelite fixed it but it's still noticeable and drives me nuts. But don't want to replace the windshield unless I really need to.

I had 2 windshields crack within a year of my taco ownership, I don’t tailgate and avoid big trucks. Never had this issue on any of my vehicles. I’m not replacing my cracked windshield, fuck it, I’ll wait till it gets completely destroyed.

In the greater Brockton area. I think that because it's over on the passenger side it will be less annoying. At least to me and my passengers will just have to live with it. ;)

It's not Tacoma related. Both of my Tundras had windshields replaced over the years. My wife's 2007 Highlander only got it replaced because it was so pitted solar glare made it impossible to see in the mornings and around sunset.

Originally it was a line from Star Trek IV, but it's actually been developed.

Buy an FJ. You will feel much better about your Taco's windshield.

Yep it's out there. Wasn't it something like that they are using on the Tesla Cybertruck?
