Read all the notes about the 4F2Z-14A604-AA diode...

What was the purpose of this diode for ford? Was it also designed to support late model ford owners that switched to an AGM battery.

Couldn't find a single mention of failure of any kind for those that have used it (except for one mention of alternator whine)

I have ordered the GM diode. 12135037 only because the ford one is $60 on Amazon.ca and the GM one is $17
All the ford dealers wanted $20 plus $25 for shipping (on something that weighs less than a loonie coin.

If your in canada its https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B08WHLPQR3?ie=UTF8

and if you want the littlefuse (same thing but 4 pack) its https://www.amazon.ca/Littelfuse-02...sprefix=littlefuse+diode,automotive,61&sr=1-2

I added this GM diode to to my 1st gen 5vz almost 2 yrs now and happy with it. Pushing 14.5v now to keep it humming. Currently running Interstate 24f MTX and no issues to report.

Took longer to trim off the small bit of extra plastic. Installed and working now

Same price as of Today for the exact same LittleFuse Part Number.. being its been Four years since I last purchased a Diode. I only chose Oreilys because the store is a few blocks away from me. I never bothered to check prices at the other Chain AutoParts Stores, wonder what they would be?

The AC Delco/GM versions are just a few bucks more..as of Today

14.45V looked a little low but battery was still warm after a drive. tested again this moning when everything was cold (2C) and it was right on. Started dropping slowly and was down to 14.65 in about a minute

    IMG_1997.jpg

And i never actually looked at it before but its right on the battery as someone mentioned it being on their AGM battery as well

    See if this is correct.
You are adding the fuse tap in the alt-s slot and the diode is in the top slot of the fuse tap (red line) This is so that its going to connect the #2 on the Alt-s slot to the blue wire (so that it can get its power source from the other fuse tap in an unused slot)

On the other fuse tap you connecting the tap so that the top slot (red line) is connecting to a #1 in that unused fuse slot (power/source). You are then placing the 7.5 amp fuse in the top slot again so this uses the (red line) connection to provide power to the other fuse slot holding the diaode.

Why do you have 7.5 amp fuses in both slots of the fuse tap in the unused location? Dont you only need one? Is that because in your case you didnt have an unused slot and are re-using an active slot and it originally had a 7.5 in it already?

And my reference to the red line was from the very helpful drawing that was posted

I tried 3 different diodes for around $120 total, and then installed a NOCO charger/tender a few months ago cause none of those worked.

I saw this at $8 American and said why not give it one more try? Glad I did because this gives me .4 more volts, so I'll still plug in, just not as often. GREAT info here.

What are you running that needs an AGM battery? I'm in Maine, read cold, I plow snow with my Tacoma (read plow motor pretty much like a starter motor) below zero is normal My lead battery is at least 9 years old and going strong just asking.

Can any one explain just what a diode does?

I've found in Arizona that lead acid can't handle the heat plus they have a tendency to burp battery acid on my inner fender. As for use, it provides enough power when I camp to charge everything I need.

A diode is a one-way device that also happens to drop about .6v. The computer measures the voltage after the diode as that much lower than desired and adjusts alternator output to compensate.

After driving for a while the ultraguage settles into to show an ECM voltage of 14.30 volts. Is that about right?

Is there any reason to remove that bit if plastic from the diode?
