Air Bags or Add a leaf needed for 225# hitch weight?

    I have been reading the TW forums and haven't really seen anyone with this set up.

    I will be picking up my new Aliner folding trailer in 3 weeks. I have a 2014 DBCB SR5 with towing package. I have a Prodigy p2 brake controller.

    The Aliner will have approx. 225# hitch weight, 2,150 # GVW. Do I need air bags or an add a leaf for a trailer this light? Anyone towing a similar A-frame folding camper? (Chalet, Forest River, etc.)

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Our Coleman pop-up camper is roughly in that same weight category. I think the base weight is 1950 plus we have AC on top and misc junk inside. Can't remember the exact tongue weight, maybe a tad less than yours. (I am 5-8, 56 years old and if I strain I can pick the tongue up for a couple seconds when absolutely necessary, so it can't be too high.)

    No problem whatsoever with too much sag on the 07 DC sport. Standard Stock springs with no modifications. We often have coolers and suitcases or what not in the bed too when pulling it.

    It has no brakes and no real problems there either, but we haven't had it on any steep grades yet. I am very cautious when towing about stopping distances and avoiding any potential hard braking situations.

    I have an Aliner that I have had beefed up for actual off-road use. It has a GVW and tongue weight that exceeds what you have specified for your own Aliner.

    My primary tow vehicle has been a 2007 Jeep Wrangler that has a 3,500 pound towing capacity (2,900 pounds less than your Taco) and a 250 pound tongue weight limit (400 pounds less than your Taco). The Jeep tows my Aliner effortlessly- and has no doubt towed our Aliner for more than 20,000 miles.

    I also had a 2012 Trail Edition 4Runner that I just sold that had a 5,000 pound towing limit. On the few occasions that I did use my 4R to tow the Aliner, I actually had to keep reminding myself that I was in fact towing a camper. With the 4Runner, I could hardly sense that I was towing something.

    I also have (had) the Prodigy P2 electric brakes installed on both the Jeep and the 4Runner. Braking was never a concern even in hills and small mountains.

    BTW, I am new to this forum. Just bought a 2014 Tacoma 4DSB Limited and I am really looking forward to using it to tow my Aliner.

    Awesome! Thanks for the info and the picts. We leave Friday to pick up the Aliner . We live in Bremerton (near Seattle) and the camper is at my sister-in-law's house in Ft Wayne, IN. Plan on camping on the way back and have reservations in Glacier National park.
    I did go ahead and get the Firestone Ride-Rite air bags. Installed the prodigy last weekend.

    Really looking forward to the trip and getting to know the Aliner. I have a 2015 Classic with the off-road package. Will post updates from the road.
