My 2014 v6 Air Conditioner sounds like shit from outside the truck but it blows consistently cold air. Not any of this grinding noise but just a general rattling noise thats constant as long as the a/c is on.

Same here. I have a 2011 TXPro Taco 6 cyl double cab and my A/C has rattled since the day I drove it off the lot. Keep in mind too I live in AZ so it gets really hot here. I run the A/C 10 months out the 12 as it always hot here. I have a 8 year/75,000 mile warranty. I have taken it in about 4x now for this annoying rattle. I don't have the grinding noise when first starting , but the rattling noise everytime the compressor kicks on. Dealership has replaced the blower motor as that had a ball bearing out making a ticking noise in the cab on passenger side. I have had my truck since new and rarely drive it , my warranty is out in Dec 2017 and I am only at 29k miles...I am taking the truck in to get the Alternator checked and replaced as Autozone told me its not charging my battery above 70% and failed test. Anyway I am going to mention the rattling again since it has been noted 4x in the past on my service trips. I will ask my service rep if they can check the idler or ac tensioner pully's to see if maybe that what is causing the rattling and replace them. If they wont do anything then I will just crank up the radio and ignore it, but at least its been documented with them.
Sounds like a common issue with Tacoma's especially if you live in hot state.

In reviewing these posts, its unfortunate there doesn't appear to be a solid solution. For those that got a new tensioner pulley or new AC clutch or bearing, did it help with the rattle?

Results may vary depending on the level of repair. Anything can be lubed and all the pulley bearings can be replaced. You have to diagnose the noisemaker and start there.

Yes that's the issue, if you read the entire thread before mine there is no clear answer. That's why I asked specifically as above. Have you done either replacement?

I replaced all the idler pulley bearings, replaced the tensioner arm, and lubed the A/C clutch pulley. Again though... you have to diagnose the problem before you start throwing money at it. You might have an entirely different problem.

Question. I got the compressor clutch. I see 2 wires, one which mounts to a screw, and another with a round plug. To remove the old plug, does it rotate and release? Or just release?

Update. The gray rubber part separates so you don't have to pull the while harness off.

Mine sounds exactly like this. Actually saw your video earlier this week. Problem is it was hard to identify. Doesn't do it in park. Only in gear with AC clutch engaged. Drove me nuts trying to find it. I kept thinking it was a license plate, exhaust, or loose bolt somewhere. Ordered a salvage denso compressor and will to fix it next week. Was $20 more than new clutch alone.

Let me know what they find. I'm 95% sure it's the ac clutch or bearing, so I got them both.

You were correct Sir. AC clutch is going out. Warranty covers the $1200 repair. Taking it in first thing Monday morning to get done at the dealership.

Update: Took it to the dealership that sold it to me (David Maus Toyota), and it was diagnosed with a faulty "tensioner assembly", NOT the AC clutch as originally diagnosed by a different Toyota dealership (AutoNation Toyota). They (David Maus) replaced it under warranty, and the rattling went away.

Interesting. I spent time tracking mine down today. The rattle/grinding noise is only heard inside the cab, doesn't make noise from the engine bay. Sounds alot like rattling license plate, but ruled that out too. It is almost inaudible outside the cab and underneath. Im stumped. Took the belt off and spun the pulley, no noise. Also checked the blower motor and vacuumed. No noise there. Only does it in gear waiting at stop lights with ac on. Took it to the shop and guy w mechanic stethoscope said ac is fine.

Update. Took it to Toyota and the crew looked at it. Found out it's little rust bits inside muffler. Ac vibration made it worse.
