Air conditioner question

    My wife has an 07 crv. Recently, the a.c. has been not blowing as cold and intermittently blowing warm.
    A.c. fan does run when a.c. is engaged.

    I am pretty clueless about the repair of automobile a.c. systems. Mechanic states that the compressor is going out. If that is the case do the symptoms match the diagnosis? I appreciate any input.
