So my AC is leaking from my condenser on the passenger side and needs to be replaced. I purchased a Denso Condenser (477-0504) and ACDelco receiver/Drier (15-10044) and plan to install myself. My plan is to do this work once all of the refrigerant has leaked out which should be pretty soon. Then, assuming there is no pressure in the system, I'll disconnect the condenser and drier and temporarily plug up the lines to prevent air or contaminants from entering.
Then install the new condenser and drier (after they have had the correct amount of oil added into each). I will use new O rings where needed. Then Vacuum the entire system and add the specified amount of refrigerant.

Where do I pour the PAG46 oil into the condenser and receiver/drier?

Is the order in my plan correct?

Other things I should consider? Do I for sure need to replace my receiver/drier?

I was told by the PO, when I purchased the truck in December 2021, that the AC would last about two days and then need to be recharged. So I used a can of UV dyed refrigerant and that restored my AC but the leak I found was not UV dyed. The new leak was obvious and went from non-existent to very obvious, but why is it not reacting with my UV light? It just looks like water or oil leaking from the condenser. I'm not sure this means anything, just a bit strange.

I have the relevant factory service manual pages attached which I plan to use.

I think he has it right, but I'll defer to a pro. :D

Good chance what your seeing is not refrigerant.

    Check your evaporator coil .

The evaporator core or coil? If coil, where is that located? What do you suppose that liquid is at the condenser?

Force of habit we call them coils not cores

    water or oil

what should happen is the refrigerant evaporates all that is left is the dye

it is possible the system is overloaded with oil.

I'll be taking my truck to the mechanic to have them charge the AC now that I've replaced the Condenser, Drier and line between the two (stripped the bolt that connects to the old condenser). My question is is there some generic oil that I have laying around (motor oil, ATF fluid, gear oil etc) I can use for the O rings connecting these lines/components or should I really use the same refrigerant? If I can get away with having to go buy that stuff solely for lubricating O rings that would be great as I wont be the one charging the system and I'd rather have everything ready to go for the mechanic.

Should just lube the o-rings with the PAG oil. But you already assembled everything?

I haven't connected the components using O rings because I don't have any PAG oil. Just seeing if I can avoid spending another $10 on one more item where I literally need two drops of oil :spending:

Well, if it ain't charged. Disconnect an older portion, stick your finger in and get a swipe of oil and rub it on the new o-rings. I did a full A/C system replacement on my F150 last fall. I feel your pain.

Wow some people's are cheap. Should have let the pro handle it start to finish
They have the correct stuff and won't be upset bout spending 10 bucks to lube orings

Its almost as if the whole point of being on this website is to learn about how to do a lot of Tacoma repairs yourself...

It's almost as if any mistake on refrigeration could be expensive. Not quite your at-home-broke-chanic type of repairs... Stick to suspension and things you have all the correct tools and knowledge to do correctly the first time.

That's pretty rude. Do you talk to your customers like that?

If they attempt their own repairs without knowledge I don't care who they are... More so environmentally irresponsible or dangerous repairs, absolutely! It's foolish to think you can just do these things under the guidance of YouTube or Google

    Shouldn't encourage it

First of all .. just because it doesn't leak doesn't mean the system is empty, just below the pressure that can get past the break. So what did he do with that residual? How about the improper oiling from not recovering, and not knowing how much oil is truly in the system? A pro would separate lines, flush out the evap, new receiver drier, pour the oil in the compressor, and full service charge qty of oil. OP didn't recover or separate oil, system remaining oil is unknown. He's already created future rework

Why not share some knowledge and detail out how to do those things, rather than rage post and look like a jerk?

Why don't we support your local mvac tech and hire a pro to do the job correct? I can give info if I like but that's bad for business. See a pro, they'll take care of it correctly. Clearly the OP isn't 608 or 609 certified... Doesn't seem like anybody in the thread is tbh
