    Open your hood, lift up the long plastic that's just bellow the windshield under the wipers on the passenger side. There is a well/opening that goes down to the cabin air filter. There is nothing protecting it, you can stick your hand down and touch the filter. Anything that lands next to the well gets washed down to the bottom of the fender/door jam.

    Filter looks fine to me. I change mine every 6 mos or so and it often looks worse!
