Our Son died at 23 less than a year after he was honorably discharged from the USAF. We respectfully disposed of his ashes off the coast of VA where he served. He loved his job and loved the AirForce, the jet he supported and the ocean. Some were spread on the flightline where he did his job. We have another Son on active duty and myself and most of the men in our family served in one branch or another. I would never entrust anyone else to "dispose" of a loved ones remains. Let alone the military. From my perspective all branches of the military focus on mission and by the nature of their work are not compassionate or the warm and fuzzy type. It is a shame....

i dont blame the USAF for this.....it probably wasn't their call. they most likely were told to do this from higher up and thus they were just following orders, but there was still a better way to go about this than just dumping the ashes into a landfill.

Theres a reason we are told not to follow a unlawful order.

Shit-Canning warfighter remains sounds pretty fucking unlawful to me...

It's an Air Force base, with AF employees, with contractors at an AF base. Think of how someone in the public views this with no mil experience. The blame falls on the AF and DOD, people need to be fired.

When 1 person f's up big time in a branch, it casts a black eye on everyone in that branch. The AF needs to take responsibility and show leadership by setting examples at the highest level.

While I no by support what was done, the problem lies with the directions given was for unclaimed unidentified parts to be creamated and disposed of and this was by dumping them in landfills.. They should have been collected in my opinion in a setting similar to tomb of unknown, i know some will still think this is fucked up but still.. i read some of the stories are for example remains sent home and then 6 months later they discovered that this piece of foot belonged to someone gone.. the family doesnt want the piece and doesnt want to exume (sp) the body to add it.. so its creamated and dumped.

The current staff can't really be punished for the descions of those in the past that set the regulation or the standard for what is to be done.

It does however need to be changed and now

Somebody's getting an Article 15. Somebody's getting chaptered out. Most of them will lose some rank. And yes, someone is getting promoted. I had a few soldiers and friends go home that way. Outrageous what that picture shows, no matter how it was meant.

The timing with this and the landfill scandal is really not good eventhough they are not related. This is just stupid on everyone's part involved. Why is that quote about always being on parade we had to memorize coming back to me?

Considering the military is facing huge budget cuts, ppl will see this and say well why should we give them so much money when they're nothin but a bunch of shitbags like those in the AF. This is down there with Abu Ghraib.

that was the policy in place so what makes that an unlawful order?
