Air Force or Army. I would like information on BCT, my MOS interest is Radiology Specialist/Diagnostic Imaging. Information or advice on how deployments are, advancement in ranking/career education, Physical fitness. Any information about anything joining the Army or Air Force would be very helpful [IMG]

A lot of your questions can be answered through a recruiter. Both branches are different and both have their ups and downs. The Air Force is more political, ranking up is smooth sailing through E4, the new ees though is a dumpster fire and it has now become a good old boy system promoting yes men and box checkers rather than those that should be promoted. TA will pay for school while your in if you do go medical your schedule should be conducive for it. Medical Afsc's are a different world than the rest of the Air Force. There's been pushes in congress for cuts to a lot of benefits so be prepared for that. However if your looking for something that gets you qualified in radiology and allows you to pay for college after 4 years than Air Force is the way to go quality of life wise. I'm at 8 years and will not be reenlisting for a lot of reasons just not the same Air Force I enlisted in today and not for the better. It did allow me to finish 2 degrees and start my graduate work. Best of luck.

Awesome choice going with radiology. You can definitely use that skill for when you retire or get out as a civilian. I was in the infantry, so it narrowed down my opportunities almost completely. Now I'm a police officer.

Both branches are pretty good, but I would suggest Air Force. They have awesome deployments, nicest barracks/living facilities, and great technology.

The Army...well in my opinion I had to deal with them in Afghan and it wasn't pleasant. If your ASVAB scores are high, go to the AF. If you change your mind and all you want to do is drink, party, get super fit, mop and clean floors with shit on them - join the Marines.

I don't know about the radiology field, but I'd say look more into the AF. I think quality of life and quality of training is better there. My sister was AF, and brother in law still is. I've also sent a few female friends that way instead of into the army and after a few years, they agree with what I had told them.

The other branch I would've joined. I practically know everything about them and had good times with my squid bros lol. Fun stuff. Being on ships sucked, but met a lot of cool cats.

My thoughts are for what you are looking for would be Air Force first then possible Navy. Not trying to discourage you from going the Army route, but after being in the Army for 9 1/2 years, if I knew then what I know now I would have went Air Force. Dont get me wrong, I enjoyed myself during my years of service! Good Luck with whatever your decision may be.

    Navy.

I wouldn't recommend Marines for women.

Neither, go Coast Guard :D. I'm currently a recruiter with 10 years of service so far. PM me with any questions you might have.

This. Quality of life stateside is awesome, downrange even more so. I also appreciated not paying for my school (just books). Also agree about the change in climate, but that's happening everywhere. I retired 5 years ago and have missed it, but my troops that are still in have been telling me stories.

I do recommend talking to all recruiters, even Coast Guard.

I work for the VA now, and there are a lot of former military working there. We work hard to take care of each other depspite what the talking heads on TV think. It's sad that the actions of a few non-prior service pig fuckers have tarnished the VA like this. I'm not medical, though, but the people at my local clinic are awesome.

At the end of the day, follow your heart. I was raised Air Force (4th generation if you count the Army Signail Corps in 1916) so USAF was a given for me.

    Good luck!

Air Force has a wait list too if you choose medical on your contract you'll likely be in dep waiting for 6-12 months before basic.

No change. I had a 6-month wait back in 1989.

@Tweety12, whatever you do, NEVER GO "OPEN GENERAL!" It's the USAF equivalent of "full retard" and is the fast track to AGE (aerospace generating equipment), Ammo (putting bombs on planes in very uncomfortable locations), or Security Forces. If your recruiter offers it to you, everything else they are telling you is lies. LIES!!

The benefit of delayed entry is that you can get yourself in shape for Basic. You can also sock money money away for that time after technical training when you can get back into your truck (or a new one). There is far more running now than there was when I came in. You can also go to shooting ranges and get some time in on an AR-15. There's no functional reason to get proficient at shooting in basic other than to earn the Expert Marksmanship ribbon, which only earns you jealous stares from other trainees on graduation weekend.

I recommend you talk to a recruiter about delayed entry, and you can PM any time if you have questions. I lived in San Antonio on Lackand for 10 years, right up until I retired in 2011, and am very familiar with the base.

    Good luck!
