Even with a wait, I'd still say AF over Army.

Dont make a long term sacrifice or decision based on a short term obstacle. Slow down, talk to some recruiters and re-read the advice already given to you in this thread. A four or six year contract/enlistment is a long time to enjoy a thought/calculated decision or really regret an impulse/hasty decision.

I'm USAF, and came in Open Mechanical. I actaully ended up with my first choice of careers. It may be possible for you to go into Open Medical if you aren't deadset on Radiology or Imaging. Who knows, you can put Radiology down as your #1 choice and you may get it... Best of luck.

Don't rush it and make a decision you may regret. Don't settle because you have to wait. Both services have great offerings but I think to focus on yourself and your MOS i would recommend the AF. I did my 5 in the Army and quality of life is better in the chair force. My motto is to never settle and there will always be 2 sides to the coin of life and decisions in whatever you make. I never settled and am doing very well now being out 10 years ago. You have to really focus and set your mind to it and make a plan. Take advantage of the services each branch offers up to its fullest.

The standard of living for an Air Force Airmen is about the same as an Army Sergeant Major. In Vegas for training me and my guys were put up in a Motel 6. Our Air Force counterparts? They were staying at the New York New York. My first deployment to Iraq the Air Force had a special little section of the base that Army folks were not allowed into. I made some friends and was given a tour. Beautiful gym, their own MWR tent, HUGE rooms compared to our tiny tents, etc. etc.

I've never deployed in a support role, so I cannot comment too much on that. However, I know that aside from Security Forces and our JTACs, I never saw an Airmen carrying a weapon around the FOB/COP/Base/Whatever.

On top of that, after dealing with Soldiers and Soldier's issues for seven years, I would not let my daughter (that I don't have) join the Army unless she were going the Officer route. Even then, I'd twist her arm as hard as I could to put her in the Air Force.

I hope that you'll listen to all these Army dudes telling you not to join the Army.

I have yet to find many Airmen that regret being in the Air Force. I could give 3" phone book of Soldiers who hate the Army. Experiences may vary.

I'm going on 13.5 years active duty Army.
For your interests, I'd lean toward the AF for sure.
    Best of luck to you!!

I've been in the Coast Guard for 5.5 years. Last year I went to an Air Force "airman leadership school". Met a bunch of cool airmen there. I'd go Air Force. Seems legit.

That's awesome that you got to attend ALS. How'd it compare to what the CG teaches budding NCOs?

The Coast Guard has a one week "Apprentice Leadership Program" when we make E4 which is considered an NCO for us. We have nothing for E4 to E5, and from E5 to E6 we have "Leadership and Management School" which is a week as well. I was lucky enough to be able to attend ALS. It was a lot more thorough and academic. Definitely an environment I wasn't used to. I liked the class though. The instructors were great and I met a lot of great airmen through the class. We had four flights and since I was already an E5, they had me as a flight leader of 14 airmen. It was pretty tough lol

Try to get into an NCO Academy as well. 6 intense weeks, and it was more practical and in-depth than my 300 series management classes, but with a lot more PT.

Was. 22 years. Now I'm with the VA, which is as close to still being on active duty. Very multi-service environment, even Coasties. We tend to congregate together contrary to the "nevers," those folks who never wore a uniform. Very different attitudes and work ethics between the two camps.

Those who served work at least twice as hard and 10 times as well as those who didn't. We come together as a team almost immediately. It's awesome, and continues to make me proud to have served.

Dont sign a 6 year contract either! Do the 4 year minimum at first, you can always reenlist down the road.

AF changed a lot in my 20yrs...it went quick and I knew when I was ready to retire. As far as PT goes you better be able to run really good, do pushup, situps and have a skinny waist. usafwx nailed it.
