Where is it? It's bad, but I need to know how to locate the sensor in the engine before I can replace it.

I took my 01 4x4 to the dealership because the engine light was on. The analysis read out P1135--air/fuel ratio sensor shorted. The price to replace was about $500. The sensor had to be ordered so I deferred until I could do more research. What I see is about $175 for the good new part. I'd like to repair the truck myself if I can, so I need to know where the sensor is located on the engine to see if it is even possible for me to get to it.

If you're talking about the Air/Fuel sensor it is essentially want is commonly called the 02 sensor. On your application it is underneath the truck on the exhaust pipe just in front of the catalytic converter. It can be replaced in about 20-30 mins with common hand tools. New the part costs around $179 from Advance Auto, make sure you get the Denso OE Direct Fit Air/Fuel sensor. Don't settle for any other brand or the universal ones because of price.
