    Hi all,

I am new to the forum, glad to be here!

My 2007 Tacoma regular cab 5 speed manual has the airbag light on. I have the code B1650, which I understand is an "Occupant Classification System Malfunction". Advance Auto Parts read it for me.

Does anyone have a PDF of the service instructions for diagnosing the source of this fault for the Tacoma?

And, does anyone have experience re calibrating this? I don't own a scan tool, but I would buy one if the dealer is going to charge me $100 to find the source, and then the hours thereafter to fix it.

I am aware of spiral cables and clock spring issues and do not think they are the source, because the spiral cable was already replaced.

    Thanks,

    reinhardtius

Anytime there's an airbag light on with our 2nd gens, the first and easiest thing to consider is the spiral cable. Did Toyota replace yours? I didn't get the connector completely closed when I did my wife's truck and the airbag light stayed on. I had to go back and re-connect it.

Have you done any work to the front of the truck? The sensors there have yellow connectors covered in yellow electrical tape and are easily damaged if you've done work there and weren't careful. I had to be careful when removing the UCA bolt to install aftermarket UCA's and had to be careful when replacing the radiator yesterday.

Thanks, spiral cable replaced in 2013. I have not done any work up front, but I did adjust the clutch pedal so it releases closer to the floor. That meant sliding the bench in and out probably 20 times. I also replaced the wiper stalk and installed cruise control recently. So, maybe the connectors on the bench are loose.

In conclusion, I will go looking for loose connectors this afternoon.

    Thank you. I saw that.

I hope the airbag connector under your seat is your bogey.

Well, I did a front brake job (pads and rotors, if you were dying to know) today. Last night, I unplugged the ground from the battery, and today after finishing the brake job, I thought, "well, why don't I take @DesertRatliff 's advice and look to see if my any connector under the passenger seat is disconnected. Everything was in tact, but I did go ahead and squeeze the connector and jiggle it a little (the magic touch). I then connected the battery, and turned the truck on. The airbag light went out. All systems appear to be operating normally.

I will provide an update after a week or so of driving to confirm. Either leaving the truck's battery disconnected for a longer period of time (in my case 24 hours), or touching that passenger side airbag connector under the seat, resolved the problem. I can't think of what else I did that made it right, but it is right now.

The SRS system does real time self diagnosis. If there's a system failure, the light illuminates, if it's fixed, it disappears; battery disconnection won't clear the code, only fixing the problem will do that. Looks like you found the problem spot and the first thing to check if it should happen again. Glad it was an easy fix!.
